Default 4X4 transfer case question

in my 99 F-250 SD 4x4 shift on the fly my GEM module is suposably bad according to Ford. if i replace that, there might be more cost involved to get ti up and running, ie shift accuator, sensors etc.

so my question is how hard would it be to put in a manual transfer case? how much are they going for? is it something that could be done in an afternoon with proper tools and a lift? will my driveshafts still work or will they have to be changed too?

any info would be greatly appreciated -
