Default The Diesel Bug

How did you get hooked on diesels? What got you started liking them so much, or what persuaded you in buying your first diesel?

For me, I was about 10 years old, and my dad bought a 1999 F250 7.3. It was garage kept and had roughly 20k miles on it. When I turned 15, he bought himself a 2007 F350 and gave me the F250. At that time, I knew nothing about a diesel motor. I quickly caught on and have been hooked ever since. I still have that same 250 and do not plan on getting rid of it. It now has to this very minute (and until tomorrow morning at about 7am) 233,998 miles on it. It's going to hit 234k on my way to school in the morning. It's only just now getting problems, and that's because I'm behind on some maintenance.

What about everyone else?

I've always been into trucks and for the longest time when I was younger I remember being fascinated with big rigs. The sounds, the stacks, all the lights. Well, as I got older and started looking at trucks before getting my license, I saw all kinds of diesel rigs. Then I started picking up Diesel Power magazine in 05 and read it from front cover to back cover. By now I was driving and had a 93 F150 with a 302. Had plenty of power for my first truck but with my best friends dad(basically my dad for all he's done for me) being a mechanic, got me hooked on what I call the "power bug". From then on, my quest for more power has never stopped. I was always asking what I can do to this engine and that for more power. Well, after have a 302, 318, and 460 having power and fuel in the tank was a problem. I had come to the conclusion that a diesel was the only way to have lots of power and good fuel mileage. After spinning a crank bearing on my 460, I searched for a cheap replacement 460 to drop in. I also heavily researched the costs of a Cummins conversion. I couldn't stop wishing I could afford to put a Cummins in the truck. I eventually sold the truck for $500 and bought my current truck for $600. Its a diesel and it might not have the power I'm still looking for but I do have the mileage. It is now probably going to be sold to a friend and I might possibly be buying a 94 F350 with a 7.3 turbo IDI. I am slowly working on the power bit, but I am extremely happy that I finally own a truck powered by a compression ignition engine. I love it so much I almost hate driving my mother's van but it hauls ***** for having only a 4.0L v6, so I don't hate it too bad. Its also rear wheel drive with automatic electronic 4x4 and its tons fun in the winter.

For me it was the smell of waking up every morning from the time I can remember to my Moms 87 K5 Blazer with a 6.2L Diesel, and my Dads 91 D250 5.9L cummins. The rest of my childhood vehicle after vehicle all my parents had were diesels, after that I was hooked. I've owned many gassers in my time LEGALLY driving(farm kid) and they never smelled, sounded, or felt right to me. So I decided it was time to finally have a diesel titled to my name for the first time last new years and I picked up my 12v in August

My pawpaw always owned diesels, first I remember was an 93 F350 IDI. I can still remember the days when he had it, I loved the sound of a diesel engine from the time I was 4 years old. Guess it was just meant to be Bout three years later he bought a 96 F250 PSD which he still drives today.

I drove a 94 F150 with a 300 I6 all throughout high school, and always loved that truck, but wanted a diesel SO bad. So after seeing a half ton dodge with a Cummins in town last semester and talking to the guy, decided to do the swap to my truck.

The guy that had the half ton diesel also had a P-pumped 01 24v putting down a little over 800hp, fuel only. Got to sit in it, but have still yet to go on a ride.
