Hosted at the Texas Motorplex, one of the country’s premier racing facilities, there were classes for everything from daily drivers to all-out race trucks. There was a Sportsman Diesel Class, in which slower trucks would get a head start based on their dial-ins; an 11.90-second index Super Diesel Class; a 6,000-pound-minimum Super Street Class; and a 4,500-pound-minimum Pro Street Class. Finally, there were the big boys: Pro Stock and Top Dragster, classes in which there are virtually no restrictions other than a 2,350-pound minimum weight. Elapsed times at the event ranged from 20-second stock trucks to 6-second dragsters, and there were even sled pulls, a manufacturers’ midway, and a mobile chassis dyno to keep all the fans entertained. At the end of the day, awards were handed out to the race winners as well as National Champions, competitors who had toured all year with the NHRDA in its points series. Look for the NHRDA to return in 2014 with a season-opening race in Bakersfield, California, on March 22.
