Default Gear selector

Hey guys,
When I go to start my truck sometimes it won't start in park so I have to put it in neutral or go to a gear and back to park for it to start, is this a sensor or something?

your shifter is sloppy too?? ok well on my buddies it was really sloppy and all he had was reverse, nuetral, and drive. is what is was, was at the end of the gear selector is 2 bolts that hold a bracket on. one broke and one was way loose. as for the safety switch, it's on the left side of the column and it's a round gold ish piece. you have to remove the lower dash piece that covers the fuse panel off, then pull the four nuts that hold the column up, and let it rest on the metal bar. i pulled the gauge cluster since i thought you could get to it from the top but you can't. so you don't need to do that. once you get the column down there is four T15 torx screws that hold the shift column down and 3 for the safety switch. there is a very small cable at the back of the shift column that is for the needle so you can tell what gear you're in. take that off. then reach back and remove the shift cable off, it just pops off. disconnect the plug for the O/D wires. then the gear selector and shifter column comes right out. there are 2 T15 bolts that hold the bracket on. check those. it's a metric bolt if you need to replace them. M6X1.0X whatever is metric for a inch. i just put a allen head bolt in there since i couldn't find a torx head. it took me about 3 hours start to finish. but that wasn't exactly bustin my *** on it. B.S.'n with a pumper and drinkin beer was involved.
