Default Think I've narrowed my options down to this now..

I posted on here a few months back while I was trying to decide between a few different makes/models of diesels for my first one. Since then I have furthered my research into alternative fuels and that has led me to this series of trucks (99-03' powerstroke).

This is the company I'm leaning towards for the hardware and maybe even the install on a veggie fuel system.
Welcome to Golden Fuel Systems! - PRODUCTS: Chevy/GMC Vehicle Computer Modules

I understand that whatever truck I end up with is going to hinge on what is available at the time of purchase, but are there any trucks in those years that stand out over the others? Are there any differences in engines or construction over those years? I've been trying to do some digging here and there, but have been extremely busy getting my affairs in order prior to leaving for BCT in less than 4 weeks.

I'm not so much into saving the environment as I am about saving my dollars as I think that all oil based fuels are going to go up in price significantly over the life of my next vehicle. I'm also open to any input as far as options for minimal power upgrades once running on alternative fuel.

Any and all information is appreciated.

Really... If your going to be running anything but good old #2... I would go for a 12v Cummins or a 99-03 7.3... Nothing else.

Yeah. That's the point of this post. I'm looking for further insight into the possible differences between years of the 7.3 (99-03), as I've already decided on going with a powerstroke.

if you are wanting to build it up go with a 99-00, otherwise you'll have to worry about PMRs that tend to break around 400 to the wheel, thats the only difference is the connecting rods

Get the newest one you can afford... IMHO.

They got more amenitys as the years went on.

PMR's are less and less of an issue as tuning gets better and better.

And once you get to the 450-500hp mark you may as well pull it to do other things anyway and can swap rods then.

good information. Thanks.

I wouldn't necessarily be looking for anything outrageous for power. just a little bit more from a tuner.. I do plan on lifting a bit and throwing larger tires on it when the time comes but the first thing planned is the veggie conversion.

The later year makes more sense to me as well, I'm just trying to make sure that I'm not missing some "holy grail" in the earlier years. I've been checking around and there are some clean 02-03's with just under 100k for right around 20k or less. Of course I might get the benefit of the market as I won't be looking in the middle of winter but rather 6 months from now after AIT.

if you don't plan on going past a set of stage II's (160/100) then any year of 7.3 will be just fine, i love my 03 7.3, i'm rebuilding it right now and putting a bunch of stuff on it to suit my needs/wants... any other questions don't be afraid to ask
