Default Advice on Buying

Hey Guys. I know this post has been asked before, but I am new to the wonderful world of diesel, so bare with me.

I found a 2006 Ford F350 6.0L Powerstroke King Ranch for $15,000. Beautiful condition. My only concern is the mileage. it has just about 144,000 miles on it. i need this truck to be my daily driver/work truck for at least 5 years. I am concerned about its reliability.

I know that the 6.0L is an amazing engine, but it has its downfalls. And I know diesels can easily surpass 300,000 miles. Is this truck a good deal and reliable, or will I just waste my time and money?

If you keep up maintenance and don't mod crazy you can get a lot of miles outta these trucks. I got almost 400,000 out of my 7.3 and only sold to get 4 door truck.

First off a 6.0 and a 7.3 are completley different animals and shouldn't be compared to one another. All I will say is do your research and know what you're getting into, theres tons of info on the forums.

the 6.0 is not an amazing engine.. it is also know as a 6.leaker. the trouble I ran into when trying to buy a truck was getting financed when I still owe 12grand on my 6.0, not the best truck I've owned.. just don't get mod crazy on it cause that's where the problems begin.

with the mileage being that high, id offer em 12500.. I seen a 6.0 for sale here in fl had 75000 miles on it and they wanted 16000

Over 208,000 miles on 6.0 now. Stock oil cooler and egr cooler. Meticulous maintenance. . Only failures are as follows: normal wear on tires, best was Bridgestone revos, 78,000 mi.. Front brakes at 132,000 mi, #8 injector about 133,000 mi, rear brakes at 138,000 mi then ficm repair and alternator at 141,000 mi.. . I have been playing with few mods but not necessary just more fun!!

Most of the 6.0 problems I have personally seen are result of poor maintenance or bad tuning. It's easy to mess up because the emissions equipment and injectors are not like diesels of old that you could just run and fill. I know one guy went thru 2 engines due to same edge programmer with faulty tune. It made tons of power but destroyed engine. Not smart!
