Default 91 7.3 Freeze plug

Thanks to all for a great site- been reading and now joined.

Knew was leaking coolant bad into bellhousing. took off bellhousing and found one freeze plug. Any ideas on how and where to put in a new one? How tough to do in my driveway? I've done lots of other mechanical stuff but this could be tougher... Should I replace any others? any other work up there while I'm at it?!? 170,000 easy miles; truck is in pretty good shape otherwise.

pics or reference or prev threads helpfull

the freeze plugs in the ford IDI engines are stainless steel and need to be installed with the proper instalation tool. without this tool the plug will most likely pop back out once some pressure is put against it.

the universal plugs will fit in, but still a slim chance of them staying in.

sorry, not gona be an easy job.

sorta curoius why it stated leaking. the plugs are normally pretty good on these engines.

Plug must have popped out cause I added too much water in the water/collant formula. How tough to do in driveway??? Worth doing? Love this truck and all other systems operable. 170, 000 miles 2wd xlt lariat

very tought in the driveway. are u sure it isnt headgaskets? they are known to leak coolant out the back of the motor, normally on the pass side head.

Well I found one of the freeze plugs in the bellhousing. But it could be a gasket as well! That's what I'm trying to figure out- if it's worth doing or if it'll be just a whole bunch of stuff to fix after this. Truck runs good and I really have babied it- but it's gettin old and has 175k
I hope I didnt suffer more collateral damage as a result of screwing up the coolant with too much water...
thanks again diesel crawler!
