I have a 2004 6.0 and I want to swap it out for a Cummins. I love Cummins but in my opinion dodge makes a tin can of a truck. So this is the route I've decided to go. I have seen it done before so I am positive it can be done (and can be done well).

What needs to be done as far as the transmission, computers, any frame work, etc.? Would it be easier to have a few mechanic friends of mine work on it at their shop or pay to have someone to do it? If so, how much would it run me?

How can I make sure the new engine I choose is a good one and has not been pushed hard/abused and the seller is truthful about the mileage? Any help is appreciated.

Edit: Also, where is a reputable website to get an engine from? I dont trust ebay. I would prefer to see and hear the engine run before throwing down ~$5K
