P 1690 code missing and white smoke!!!!
P1690 missing and white smoke
hello.... please help!!!
i have a 2001 dodge cummins 24v 4x4 quadzilla 4k mbrp 4' and k&N intake
the otherday i was driving home and truck was driving fine all of a sudden the truck fell on its face and started missing, blowing white smoke, and a dead pedal. i got the truck home and threw a p1690 engine code. i later put a new cam/crank sensor( because where the crank sensor is located their is a blank)truck is doing the same exact thing as before!!!
i have 10-15 psi when the truck is running and sometimes goes below 8 on a stock lift pump
yes i have a quadzilla on the truck but i havent really been turning it on untill i get a airdog lift pump but it was on level 6 when this happened but not pushing it just driving normal
i see alot of people posting on this problem but not many solutions, if anyone has experience it and knows how to fix it please let me know!! im thinking its the vp44 since it was ran dry by the previous owner!! please help!!

sounds like you have at least a injection pump issue, if not a burnt down hole. sorry.
take the time take out the injectors inspect them visually.
a question does it knock now? if it does ,fuel timing issue=pump.
i had same issue cracked injector flooded one cyl, burnt it down+injection pump+new lift pump, took quadzilla out and burnt it 1700 in parts. did it myself didnt look back.
Another thing if you use that quadzilla timing advance kit, the stock injectors cant take the pressure, also its harder on the injection pump, which will shorten its life even with good lift press.
my recommendation, take that piece of crap quadzilla thing out throw it as far as you can youll be moneey aheaad in the long run.

Yea she's knocking also but the other day after I let it run to get it up on the trailer it was knocking and blowing white smoke then once it ran for a few mins it stopped the loping idle just had no power! So I have a new injector pump and lift pump due in today.... So you had a burnt injector too when yours went?

Try replacing the cam position sensor. P1690 is the code for cam position sensor.

Oops, sorry, I missed you had already replaced cam position sensor.

update , yes i had an injector that looked like it split in half but the break was so precise it looked like it was machined, no kidding. all the fuel was spraying to one side of the cylinder and wasnt burning off correctly. i believe it was burning constantly and melted piston down+aluminum buildup on one side of piston smashed the head .. no bent valves though, atl least visually. Had to replace 3 of 4 valve seats, replaced 4 anyway. cracks were very shallow, on the face of the seat only so i lucked out. i talked to my uncle who has been working on diesels since he was in Alaska back in the pipe line days 70's he said the guy before me probably ran it with water in the fuel. Apparently the water does not flow like fuel and the massive pressure the vp44's produce actually made the water crack it , he was pretty confident in his answer. And when i asked him what can make an injector break that way , he instantly replied , water. some pics in my post from 2001 dodge high idle miss. sorry no injector pics i used it as a dummy compression tester.
