Default So I am considering a barter of my 97 Burb - what you think?

It starts about 2 years ago I bought my brothers Excursion with a 7.3 Powerstroke and fell in love with diesels and the possibilities etc... Well I managed to total the Excursion and that brings us to present day where I was able to buy a nice 04 Crown Vic and a nice 97 Burb with the 6.5 and LT trim package K2500 with the insurance pay out. The Vic is more daily driver and the truck for towing and a day or two each week of my 80 mile round trip commute.

I have realized that I really need a pick up versus an SUV and I wondered if any of you have ever had luck with Craigslist and the Barter page? The Burb books out for around $4500 (212K miles) and I'll spare you the list of new parts but sufice to say it cleans up very well and would make a nice trade for a like valued 3/4 or 1 ton 4X4 PU.

What say you about this thought of mine? I really do not want to sell it and then go shopping because my time is so hard to come by it seems these days...

Any comments or thoughts appreciated. I did do a little looking and there are some likely candidates out there. I live in Birmingham so Nashville, Atlanta are close by to expand my territory.

Thank you!

~GOD BLESS~

Unfortunatly your 6.5 isn't gonna equal up in value to any other of the big three diesels of the same era

Default I agree : ( ... But I am willing to go gas (cough cough)

I know that I will not be able to get into another diesel but I am willing to go back to a gas powertrain if need be. Just was wondering if anyone has had any luck with the barter section. It might be fun to try just to see what kind of responses I get : O

I really like the Burb' and it is running sweet right now but I could get so much more done on our property with a PU.

I also have a few other things that I can throw in with the trade to get a diesel if needed. I do not know if I can mention them here - let's just say they go 'bang!'. But I do not have extra cash right now to throw in so it woud have to be a straight trade or trade plus shop equipment, antique outboard motors or bang etc...

Any other thoughts?

I'd post it on Craigslist in the barter and FS sections, might be able to swap it for a 6.5 pickup. Better get some medicine that cough sounds terrible

Idk about where you live but personally I have always had good luck in the barter section and I've always gotten what I wanted, I'm sure you already know this but my advice to anyone wanting to trade is wait it out don't take the first offer you get, I've turned down some pretty nice trade offers but got something a lot better in return, that's just my 2 cents

Default Got a hit on Craigslist

Well I posted in the Barter section and after a week no replies so I started trolling the cities around me and found a truck in Kentucky. I live in Birmingham, AL. It is a 99 Silverado 2500 extended cab long bed 4X4 gas burner with the 6.0 liter and an automatic. All the power options and some nice new items (battery, tires etc...) Also had a major tune up about a few months back. New fule pump and sensor as well.

I did some research and the truck seems pretty solid - the fellow trader has four kids with one on the way and was looking for a suburban or van. I am going to try and meet up with him this weekend (split the drive and meet half way) to see the truck in person.

Any thoughts?

Good luck with that trade 6.0 is a good power train a bit hard on fuel compared to a 6.5 but dependable you may sooner or later have to clean the EGR tube and do a intake cleaning but other than that sounds like a good deal for you oh and I am near Ky get a good look at the under carrige lots of road salting in these areas
oh where in Ky?

Default The truck is in Drakesboro, KY

Goot point about the salt. My Burb came from Indiana and definately has the undercarriage to show for it. But body on her is great. I thought I would bring my ramps with me to pull the front up on then rear to get a good look under the truck and allow the potential trader to do the same...

Where in KY are you? I used to go to school in Clarksville, TN right near Ft Campbell KY.

OK. I lived in Clarksville for seven years from 87 - 94. Then moved to Birmingham. I know Clarksville has changed a great deal since then - I bet since you grew up there you hardly recognize it anymore.
