They don't help. The factory muffler isn't very restrictive at all.
I put one on when my tailpipe rotted away from the muffler

I appreciate the info. What about the EGT's, I read something, somewhere, about louvers or some sort of spacing placed at some point in the system that are supposed to reduce EGT's, I think to allow freash air to be pulled in. Anyone read anything about this?

nope b.s there is nothing inside no louvers but you can dang near by a full system for the price of a cat back just sayin
