Default oil cap?

so when i got my truck about 7 months ago (2002) i changed all the fluids and the parts store told me 12 quarts for engine and today i went to change it again. decided to look through the manual and it says 11. by running 12 for that time being hurt? too much pressure on seals or what? any input would be appreciated.

There won't be any pressure difference. Performance wise, there is a chance that the crank will splash in the oil, not a noticeable difference at all. Otherwise, there may be oil leaks if you have a bad oil pan gasket due to the higher oil level.

I'd say better to have too much than not enough.. like RAW said, you're only talking a quart... and if it were my truck that quart would leak out in a week anyways

when it comes to engine oil it better to be a lilttle under than a little over, reason ariation you can suck air through the engine rather than oil. Buts sense your truck leaks oil it proablly getter to be over.

Everytime I have done my oil it has taken 12 quarts using napa or fleetguard filters to set it on the top of the full mark. 11 leaves me at the low mark on safe range
