Transmission fluid change 47re METAL PIECES FOUND
Hey all
First transmission fluid change since purchasing of my 2001 24 valve cummins. I found these two larger metal pieces.
Has anyone else found these?
Is this a big problem?
Does anyone know exactly what they belong to?
The pieces together appear that they would form a ring shape.
Transmission status: 196K miles believed to be stock tranny. When fluid just dropped it appears to be very used.
Shifting:
1) jumps 300rmps up/down when cruising at approx 35mph. (1200-1500 rpm back and forth)
2) hard shift and slight shudder when shifting into overdrive.
I purchased new fluid, filter/gasket, pressure sensor transducer, and solenoid to fix the problem. . . but then found these pieces.
Thanks bob

Im not going to say its cheap but from my experience complete stock 47re transmission rebuilds don't cost that much were talking 2100-2500 bucks that's labor fluid and taxes you get into the 3500 4500 range when you start beefing stuff up and that's a lot of stuff beefed up

Right. That is where I am at. The modifications on this truck are unknown to me besides the obvious. chip, exhaust, intake, intake elbow etc... A stock tranny might not hold up well, and the forest road I pull horses and hunting gear up will eat a 47re even in a completely unmodified cummins so a beefed up tranny is my best option. One big problem is right now I can't even afford a simple rebuild. I may have to drive it the way it is for awhile.....thanks for the help guys. Im sure Ill have more questions on this in the future
