Default fuel filter housing leaking again!!

hey guys i have a 1999 cummins eclb. this is the second time the housing has sprung a leak.. the first was the filter canister on the bottom had a hairline crack in it and now it is leaking around the fuel pre heater wires in the top... i stopped at the numerous auto parts chain stores and i asked them if they could get the part and they looked at me like i was stupid... Come to find out that the housing is obselete. I am sick and tired of trying to fix this piece of ****! Do you guys recommend an airdog or fass system? and do both come with all of the hardware and hoses needed for a direct change out? and also i have a raptor 100 lift pump on my truck. If I buy a fass or airdog system do I need the raptor or can i take it off and try to sell it and recoup some money?

since you already have a raptor pump, are you any good with basic plumbing? if so, you can bypass the OEM filter housing/fuel heater all together and add a couple filter bases to your fuel system.

you can buy spin on filter bases pretty cheap...just put one pre-raptor pump and one post-raptor pump. the pre-filter will be a 100micron filter/water separator...stops big junk from going through the pump and pulls water from the fuel. the post filter will be a 2-7 micron filter that will be the final filtration of the fuel before it reaches the injection pump.

you can make one of those setups pretty cheaply and run fleetguard filters in it.

wix 33528 2-micron $17.87 (fleetguard FF5320)
wix 33405 fuel/water separator - pre-filter $21.87 (fleetguard FS1240)

wix 24770 (filter mounting base) x2 $27.45/ea

all prices from amazon

you can cross reference those part numbers for donaldson or napa filters as well...

as for mounting: mount them on the frame. you can either make a bracket, or hang them by piping from the pump, or however you want to do it..

can probably find all of the plumbing you need in a hardware store, a local hydraulic supply store, or vulcan performance online.

thanks again jigabop. I think i am going to bite the bullet and go with the airdog 150 and try to sell the raptor 100 to recoup some of the cost of the airdog. So looks like i am going to have a weekend project on my hands in the near future. I didnt realize that you had to drop the tank but oh well from what i read it will be worth it in the end.

Next question.... Who has the best deal on the airdog 150?

airdog price locks the venders so everyone will have the same price on them...

so really it comes down to who has the best customer service and free shipping...

CPP or DAP would be my choices...

(cummins performance parts, or diesel auto power)

jamie from CPP is a great guy to deal with as is jacob from DAP
