| 12 Valve 2nd Gen Dodge Cummins 94-98 Discussion of 12 Valve 5.9 Liter Dodge Cummins Diesels with P7100 Injection Pumps |
Looking for info on what a safe EGT is, of course there will be different opinions on that, so I'm willing to hear them all, and there's also a grey zone on what's definitely safe, and definite failure point Buddy of mine said 1300F measured ... JOIN NOW TO REMOVE TRACER

Buddy of mine said 1300F measured pre-turbo for the next couple of days my EGT will be measured post turbo until I get home and have a tap to install it in the rear runner.. so until then, I'm going to keep it at 1000F or lower... I think this information should be stickied along with all the other questions that always get asked cheer and thanks in advance |

Be a few times where it's going to want to get above that, so anything below 1250 is safe for an extended amount of time.

i can hit 1600 on my 12v and i know a guy who says he can hit 2000 on his cr his opinion is if its not for too long and if it has enough fuel it fine but i try to stay around 1200 or under ... aluminum melts around 1200 degrees so if its hot enough for long enough to heat the turbo up that much is bad news

well, took it for a test, up a reasonable hill it hit about 650-700F POST turbo, I'm thinking that is rather low, at light cruise it sits around 400F, which sounds really cold too.. brand new pyro... Defective?

Well let me put it this way cummins rates these engines at 1250 all day long. I have a 1600* gauge and it has been buried more times than id like to admit, but when I tore my engine down last spring it showed NO signs of excessive heat. I am a firm believer in if you don't see it it aint happening. Not to say ill hold it with the needle wrapped for long I do have a few pennies in this powerplant. But I'm just a dumb redneck what do I know.

I'm used to the Rx7 listen in my sig, and the lifeline of that engine is the air/fuel ratio, under power, if it's EVER leaner than 11:1, you risk immediate engine damage (90% HP loss), especially if it's hot out, so I keep a pretty close eye on gauges when bookin it

that is very true, as well as ginormous torque numbers, and better fuel milage... but I kinda do miss an 8000 rpm redline
