Whats the deal with the OE paint on the hood and tops of 90s model dodges? Both mine and my dads 2500s are peeling
. The guy at the body shop says its something in the metal and that if he paints it with the OE hood he wont guarantee the paint to not start doing the same thing. He says he can stand behind it with a replacement hood though. I was just wondering if anybody has an idea of whats going on...

dodge puts a lot of galvinized particles in the chemical makeup of their metal to try and prevent rusting untill warranty is up, mines is that drift wood silver and i had no problems with the paint untill my sister in law crawled up on the hood to paint just married on the windshield while wearing nylons, rite after i had just told everybody to not crawl on my truck w/ anything
soon after with the clearcoat scratched paint went to crap

it was an issue with the primer those years. my truck was black and i didn't have an issue with it for some odd reason and haven't yet since i re-painted it. i have seen the emerald green and silver and white trucks peel the most. if the paint guy sands it to the metal, preps it with a self etching primer, then seals it then paints then there shouldn't be an issue..... but buying a new hood will more than likely be cheaper.....

The only way to fix it is like Benjamin said.. take it to the bare metal, prep it properly and then repaint it. |

ya i remember that the silver blazers and some full size Chevy trucks had that problem, and some of the late 80's early 90's F series trucks too.... IIRC there was some sort of recall on that for the Chevy's wasn't there?
