I think that if that's all it takes for 235, I am shooting for 300hp instead of 225

Truck trends has a really nice article on power they gained from the free mods and dynoed to see how much it actually added thunk it was over 300hp.. very easy to achieve even on stock timing. Just have to watch boost pressure very easy to stretch those stock head bolts.

Really? Most shops here won't bother doing a 6bt head pre-emptively unless you're doing more than an hx35 can handle (so more than 33-35psi)

thats not too bad, a gsk, and sliding the plate and jacking the boost up would get probably close to 300. 300 is super easy to get. and you can run like 100psi of boost with stock timing and stock studs, its timing that makes you need studs. boost is rated in under 100psi and cylinder pressure is in hundreds or thousands of psi, adding 40 isn't going to change much. when you change timing it dramatically increases cyl pressure. thus why you need studs.

Called the go to shop here. They said that at 15* timing, they won't recommend studs till you're at something insane like 65psi.

probably just old. they do wear out on stock old bolts. boost has hardly anything to do with it. its such a small number compared to the pressure in the cylinder. it might push an old gasket over the top. but if you just did stock bolts and a ton of boost the only negative effect is maybe blowing open the valves. ya with out timing 16 seems to be the popular no stud timing your not gonna pop anything unless its old. i personally would do a hg and studs and valve springs on any truck so you never have to worry.

FYI, new compression on a 6bt is around 525psi as I do recall.

Part of the reason they start so well. A 7.3 powerstroke is at like 385 new or something.

Very easy to do this with a stock turbo. All I had to do was pull out the plate and slide the AFC forward and my stock turbo was pushing 45psi with stock injectors and otherwise stock pump. Well, I think I was running 17.5° too, but that wouldn't affect boost. Wasn't long after that that I started leaking coolant at the back of the head, but as... someone above said, I think that was as much a matter of an old gasket with a quarter million miles on it as how hard I was hammering it.
