Default Cummins engine start up

Iv got a 96 12 valve 5 speed just recently replace the Injection pump just a stock rebuilt pump. On start up the motor turns two or three times before fireing is this normal? Iv herd a 12v should start just by bliping the key ?

In my experience the first gens start up with just a blip, the second gen 12 valves take a little longer, but no too long. How did your truck start before?

When I bought the truck it cranked forever which is why I replace the Injection pump, I got the rebuilt one installed it it fired up a tad bit quicker than the pump I have now but a barrell kept sticking so I had to pull the pump again and give it back to the place Ihad rebuild it, so if something is wrong with the pump again I feel they would have caught it.

any excessive engine blow by out of the dip stick tube or oil filler cap?
How many miles on this engine?
Can you elaborate on it cranks two or three times to get it started. Does this mean the engine doesn't start during the first key cycle or just that the engine turns several revolution before it starts?

engine cranks for about two to three sec before firing, motor has 176k and couldn't really tell of any blow by I couldn't smell any diesel fuel in the oil when I changed it
It could be totally fine I was just wondering if this is normal and I'm just paranoid or I have myself another problem

could be a small fuel leak down. park the truck down hill and see if that helps it start quicker. if it does check all fittings for dampness. if not timing can cause a harder start. my sled pulling truck timed at 30 degs. is a bear to start

two or three cranks is pretty good IMO I would not worry at all about that.

My 94 will crank all day with out a fire unless either is used .... than you have to keep it running with either till she warms up

I would try the fuel leak down and check the injection pump timing and maybe have a compression check done. 175k on injectors is a pretty good life span in my opinion. But if your not puffing smoke on start up it may just be a leaking down ip.
