Default Stiff steering in 95 2500.

Got a new to me 95 model 2500. Haven't been around many Rams but the steering seems to feel like something isnt working properly. You can turn it with one hand, but its firm each direction. No pump noise, full of fluid and no burnt smell to it.
I googled for stiff steering issues and came up a blank... any help ? Thanks

could be a steering box issue .. the spool valve's can get stickey over time .... do a flush on the system and use some lucas PS fluid additive ...

The guys at our shop have always used ATF for power steering fluid, saying there was no difference except the price. One day I decided to see for myself, flushed the system and filled it with plain old power steering fluid. Everything got better. Not just "yeah, I think it's better", but better enough that if I didn't know it had been done, I would still know something in my steering had fundamentally changed. I don't know what you've got in there, but flushing it can't hurt, and I almost never tell someone that real PSF is better than ATF without getting scoffed at, so there's a good chance yours has the wrong stuff in it as well since it seems to be a very common practice.

It looked like PS fluid in it and not red ATF... I will flush it and try some lucas in it.
I found reman gear boxes online for about $100 if thats what it turns out to be. So thats not too bad.

I'd be wary of reman boxes, unless they're from Redhead or Borgeson. We've used a lot of reman boxes in our fleet trucks from a lot of places, and just never seem to get the same life out of them.
