New Tranny Issues.... Need ideas.
So a few weeks ago my Transmission oil cooler sproited a leak and bleed all over the road, around 2-3 quarts. I mmidiatly got a new cooler (not OEM) hooked everything up and put some more fluid in. I added around 3 Quarts of ATF4+ to bring it back to normal operating range on the stick. Since then, Ive noticed some pretty bad tranny slips in low range RPM's around 38-46 MPH. Transmission Temp is Normal, around 130 on hot days, around 115 on cold days, under a load or high RPM's it shifts perfect, but if im going slow, it cant decide what gear to be in.
-I dont know what the previous owner ran for Tranny fluid, i assumed since he had it built with billit converter and input/output shafts he put the fully synthetic ATF+ in it. if not, would this cause an issue? (Should i drain it all, change filter, and re-fill)
-When I changed out the cooler, is it possible air got in they lines or in the converter and its not filling up the way it should?
-My last 3 Cummins were all Manuals, this is my first experience with an automotic so any information or suggestions is greatly appriciated!

Thanks for the input. I'm going to try this first and knock it out this weeked. Now with the bands, is there a write up, or can you explain how i need to adjust them? Thanks again for the help.

May be dumb, but how would transmission get contaminated with coolant ? The oil cooler and lines are separate from the radiator.
And yes, I checked fluid in neutral, it's good.
Thanks for the link to the write up, if it ever stops raining this weekend I'll be draining the pan. Thanks for all the help guys.
