Got the obd to work showed up a generic code for glow plugs and map sensor as well---this is like the third map sensor in the 200000 miles of the car---any guesses

I don't think I've ever seen a MAP sensor fault. If you getting the glowplug fault again, you need too replace the glowplug harness.

Hmmm...Tye - have you seen much in the way of wiring/electrical problems on TDI's? I posted on another forum and it seems there can be electrical problems with these things:

They are excellent cars, but I normally recommend replacing them before the warranty coverage runs out, or they get really expensive. Wiring is one of the reasons.

Otherwise, great fuel economy, good power, solid little cars. No complaints at all about that.

I don't think so! I get lots of phone calls from people that think they have wiring issues because "There Mechanic" cant figure them out or said so! I've been around these things for awhile now and I can diagnosis them on the service drive or over the phone! They DO have lots of little issues and it stems to terrible quality control! If you notice most complaints are about the Jetta and Bug! They come out of Mexico and from 98-05.4, those are the problem cars! Now, The 05.5+ Jettas and Bugs that come out of Mexico seem to be better then ones coming out of Germany! When I went to school to learn about the new Jetta there was a 1/2
video apologizing for all the problems from Germany. Germany stepped in and took over the plant and started running it.

A couple of these guys were telling me that the wiring issues seem to be related to a cold climate - doesnt sound right to me though.

These cars are designed for the cold weather. Look how cold it gets in Germany! I've got V-dubs that all I do is maintenance, then I've got the ones with there own personal parking places.

You have the 2.0 TDi. The 1.9 were used in the beetle, golf and jetta.

are there any things i can do to the 2.0 liter
