81 Rabbit

I'm picking up a 1981 4-door VW Rabbit w/ 1.6L diesel and 5 speed many. I'm curious what I can do to give this slug a little bit more GO to go with the coolness of it being 4 door rabbit! :U:

Be real neat if you could adapt a turbo off of a little 3cyl John Deer or Kubota diesel

It's a cool car. There is a 1.9L turbo rabbit on youtube that fn hawls bawls and rolls the coal!

On the back of the injection pump is the fuel screw. You can turn it up, but, the max your going to get out of it, is maybe 10% increase? You can add a turbo and inner cooler to them if ya feel ambitious.

Turbo and inter cooler from? Do you have anymore info?

From what I understand it's a direct bolt up. They make the same motor in a turbo too so all you need to do is find the manifolds and turbo for one and bolt it up. Add some more fuel if needed and let er buck.

I guess they're are a few aftermarket ones out there too if you look hard enough.

What Johnny said. Check with your local junk yard.

I also remember reading about a set-up over on one of the MK forums. I'll see if I can find it?

An after market turbo would be cool! What year did the 1.6L have a turbo on it?

Is it possibly to break a 100hp+ with this turd?

the only thing is with the n/a 1.6 there is no oil squirters on the pistions that the turbo motors have to cool them off with the higher pressures and heat, you can turn them up the same way as the 1st gen 12v same pump basically its a bosch ve, just a 4 cyl version mine rolls the coal you can only go so high they do run away easy, go until you rev it up and the idle hangs up then back it down a little bit
