Cummins Big Single Turbo

How big of a turbo could you get a Cummins to spin? 4.1 or bigger? This would be a p-pumped motor so fuel probably wouldn't be an issue. Thanks

thats a big effin turbo man most pro mods that run twins are just a lil bigger than 4in,and it would need to be a big p pump maybe even a sigma

i only know of one guy pulling in the unlimited single class that pulls and is sucessful with a turbo over 4 inches.

Your gonna need a 14mm pump pushing a metric shit ton of fuel and it tuned just right to be able to stay on top of it down the track once you get the box coming forward

would it work to put a garrett gt47 series 88mm on a cummins with a p pump? it has an 88mm inducer wheel and normally a .96 a/r ratio

it would most likely have to be a common rail head to flow a good enough air flow also to get it spooled. :tu:

thats really is suprising. i would have figured that a 5.9 would spool it quite nicely. i was wondering cause the factory 3.0 liter straight six in a supra will spool it mind you it spools at 4700-5000 rpm but i was thinking the displacememt would make up for it

gas engines work a lot different than diesels my buddy runs a 76mm on his 5.0

coalrollin12v 12-31-2009 04:39 PM

i mean i know they work alot diferent and guess i was just thinking along the lines of displacememnt not rpms and shit

i beleive many of the superstreet guys are running a 3.2+ charger and few are around 3.6 inducer. The problem with goin even larger like 4.1 is you can spool it no problem but its about granteed to snuff at the end of the track.

4.1 is huge, you would have to have a ton of air to spool that. By the way, a 12v head can flow tons of air when preped properly. Assuming you are just using this truck for pulling, and depending whatclass you are going to run i would stay more around the 3.0 to 3.6 rannge. But hey, you might be aable to pull it off. Even if you snuffed it at the end of the track you might be able to get a good enough run to make up for it, a lot of the pro stock tractors do it, they look at it as a race, they want to get down the track the fastest as possible, and it makkes sence, if you average 10mph faster down the track you might not need that grunt at the end of the track. Just my input, i just run a 3.0 truck, you want something totally different, good luck and let us know how it goes.
