anyone ever put a front axle in a 2wd 78 f150
has any one ever put a front axle in a 2wd 78 f150
i already have the front axle and the driveshafts and tranny and transfer case i just need to know about any little details that come up |
Hmmm its been a while since I have looked under one of these things, and to be honest im not 100% familiar with a 2wds suspension... The frame mounts for the control arms would be important as well as the trac bar mount on the frame. My old man used to have a 79 4wd F150, great truck!! Any updates on your project??

im just waitin till the garage opens up then im puttin it in
|
make shure you have donor truck.

well i have my 86f150 but that has the twin traction beam so we will see wat works i might end yp buying some parts
|
I helped a friend do that years ago when it was a late model truck. I think we had to use almost all the frame brackets off the 4x4 doner because thay were different from the twin I beam 2 wheeler brackets. It can be done but I remember it being harder than we anticipated. Good luck, Rocky

alright thanks for the help i know it will be hard but not to worried just the steering is wat im worried about
|
You should just be able to buy a steering set up from a 4wd and slap it in there. it shouldnt be too difficult.
|
Have you made any progress on this?? Im interested in knowing how difficult it is

There will be some fabrication involved since the frames are quite different between the two. Plus the '78 4wd models were SA not TTB, so the crossmember mount will need to be fabbed or cut/welded in. Not saying it cant be done, but its definitely not just plug and play. Id cut out the TTB at the frame keeping it intact, mock it up, and start fabbing mounts to link it to the frame.
A far easier swap would be a 78-79 D44. You could probably sell the TTB and make up for most of the difference, or use the parts off your TTB to rebuild it. Either way, good luck!! :c: |
