offset, backspacing questions
 

So i have been trying to figure this all out on my own but it is just not clicking in my head so i have decided to ask for some help. I have an 01 dodge 2500 4x4. I would like to get some new rims, but i dont want them to stick out real far or tuck under the truck either. what is the offset of a stock rim for my truck? I know the backspacing is 6.25" I like the Mickey Thompson Sidebiter rims, but the offset is 0, does that mean it will stick out really far? and help is greatly appreciated thanks guys

The way I understand it is, if the back spacing is over half of the wheels actual width, it will set more under the truck. If it's less than half it will stick out. 0 should be the same width from center to inside and outside of the wheel.

Negative offset=stick out past the fender
Positive offset=tucked in the fender more

With the 0 offset on the Sidebitters they will be fairly flush with the fender.

:jump: thanks for the info! but will the 5" back spacing be alright? i believe the stock wheels are 6.25" but with a bigger offset

Same width? 0 Offset means the hub mounting surface is in the exact middle of the wheel.

Just going by backspacing, If the rims are the same width the MTs will stick out 1.25" more than the stock rims. If your going with some 33" or 35"s I think you'll have some fender rubbing issues unless you have a lift.

The MT's are 17x9 0 offset, 5 back spacing. I have a 2.5" leveling kit on the truck and fender flares. I would like to put some 33's on the rims.

When I bought my truck, it came with 35x12.5 Toyo M/T's on it. The 2.5" levelling kit made vertical room, but when turning hard the side lugs would rub the hell out of the control arms.

I have 35 12.50s MTZs on H2 rims. Stock height and it rubs on the control arms at full lock. That is just a fact of life. Unless you get rims that space the tires out more, then you have to have a lift or leveling kit in order to avoid major rubbing on the body. I had to take the mud flaps off the front as it is.
