Best All-Terrain Tires?

Just wondering what everyone thinks are the best A/T tires out there in a 35" size?

I have been thinking of getting the Cooper S/T or the Nitto terra Grappler, except I heard they don't last very long on an 7000lb truck.

I like my Micky FC-II's

thebreeze04 11-28-2007 04:06 PM

I have freinds running each on 1/2 ton fords the coopers are lasting longer

MttSnook 11-28-2007 04:09 PM

I am definitely leaning more towards the Cooper S/T in an LT315/75-16, I have heard a lot of good things about them and they have a good amount of tread.

scarecrow 11-28-2007 04:19 PM

i love my pro comp A/T `s ...i have em in 315/75/16 they ride very smooth there very quiet no wobbles or shakes and there not even balanced. in snow they are awsome by far the best tire i have ever had in the snow. and i have had alot of tires. best part is they have a 50,000 mile tread life warranty.

bway1341 11-28-2007 04:27 PM

I love these on the silver truck Nitto

MttSnook 11-28-2007 04:30 PM

How are the Nitto's holding up so far? I heard they wear fairly quickly and instead of A/T they become more of a road tire.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-28-2007 05:15 PM

nitto terra grapplers are a good AT, several of my friends run them, one guy got 45k on his first set of 35's and will probably get 40+ on this second set, and they rarely get rotated, this is on a 2000 F350, it pulls a trailer pretty much all summer with a 6500lb pulling truck on the back, never had a problem, another friend of mine has a set of 33's and runs themon a regular cab F350, pulls a trailer with a 8000lb diesel pulling truck on the back, he will probably get about 35-40K.........

MttSnook 11-28-2007 05:37 PM

Wow, that definitely changes my opinion about them. Thats exactly the type of info I'm looking for.

Thanks
Matt

Dad's got 1500 miles so far on toyo a/t and they're running just fine. A lot smoother than the Michelin's if you ask me.

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-28-2007 05:51 PM

toyo's and nitto's are both made in the same plant with the same rubber.......just so ya guys know......nitto's are cheaper though......

Nitto's have a different sidewall pattern.

MttSnook 11-28-2007 05:57 PM

Yea, the Nittos are a little bit cheaper the best I have seen was around 700 for 4 LT315/75-16. Does anyone have any pics of that size Nitto on a 16x8 rim? Just curious what the tire would look like mounted.

do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth????

i said the same plant and the same rubber.........where at any point did i say sidewall, now go find a corner and lay down.......:yeah:

700 is a good deal, i would jump on them.....

if ya want toyo's, you can get them for 160 plus shipping and mounting........

I'm gonna pop you one boy. I was just saying the only difference is the sidewall. Go compare a nitto to a toyo ya dipstick. Same tread pattern just different sidewall.

SuperDave4x4 11-28-2007 07:06 PM

I like my ProComp Xtreme A/T's. First tire I've had to last over a year and they still have half the tread left. I would go with the Xtreme A/T or Nitto's all terrain.

dalton06 11-28-2007 08:00 PM

I got toyo a/t also and like them pretty well. They were a little spungie at first but burn them a little and then rotate and repeat and they are great.

MttSnook 11-29-2007 10:04 AM

That's good news. Well, I was going to go with the Cooper S/T but now I am not so sure anymore. Anyone else run coopers of any kind?

Matt

dieseljunkie 11-29-2007 12:43 PM

I run 35x12.50x17 Pro comp Extreme AT's, and I love them so far. They have about 2k miles on them and don't look like they have worn at all.
Scott

MttSnook 11-29-2007 12:52 PM

A lot of people like the Pro-Comps but Cooper owns Pro-Comp and Mastercraft, so I just figured that they must make a pretty good tire. There are a few people that swear by them, I am just wondering how they do on the larger trucks. Plus they are cheap, something like $660 out the door for LT315/75-16.

Matt

dieseljunkie 11-29-2007 12:54 PM

If you can get them that cheap, then buy the coopers... Even with the buy 3 get 1 free deal I got in on, and free shipping from a vendor I like to deal with, I still paid $840 for the tires.... then I paid more to have them mounted and balanced.
Scott

MttSnook 11-29-2007 01:02 PM

Yea the coopers are around $165 each for the 35's, but should I get them just because they are cheap? I can get BFG A/T for $180 (4wheelparts.com is having a sale) and the Nitto A/T for $175. I drive normal and mostly highway and some off-roading, but I'd like to have some tread to get out of the nasty Florida mud.

Matt

dieseljunkie 11-29-2007 01:06 PM

I would buy them.. but thats because I am cheap. On the other hand, I will NEVER buy from 4 wheel parts again. They lost my business for good when a tire order got screwed up. I ordered 4 blem 35's from them, and then they charged my credit card for them... Well, 2 weeks went by and I never got the tires, so I called... Turns out, they didn't have the blems in stock, but were more than willing to sell me a NEW set of 35's, for FULL retail, even though they are the ones that screwed up. I told them to pound sand, and piss off for charging my credit card, even though they didn't have the tires... then I told them to credit the card back THAT day, or the BBB would be hearing about this. It took them 3 days to credit my card.. and I ordered from somewhere else. I urge ANYONE I talk to, to NEVER deal with 4 wheel parts.
Scott

MttSnook 11-29-2007 01:08 PM

Wow, that is horrible, they should have sold you the brand new 35's for the same price you paid for the blems. That is what a good business would do, and then appologize for their mistake. It seems like no one really cares about the customer anymore.

Matt

dieseljunkie 11-29-2007 01:10 PM

Thats exactly it... I don't even care that they didn't offer to sell me the new ones for a discount.. I am just pissed that ANY business would charge a credit card before shipping out the items....

2003CTD 11-29-2007 02:28 PM

I would never buy from 4 Wheel Parts. I have been in a couple of them and have asked questions about programmers. I have found that they either don't know their product and/or they want to sell me something that cost alot more.

As for tires, I like BFG's alot better than Nitto's. I had a 1/2 ton before this truck I have now. I got 74k with the BFG's and only 52k on the Nitto's. Same truck and driving style.

MttSnook 11-29-2007 03:33 PM

Yea, a lot of people run BFG's and get incredible mileage. But since there's no way I am buying from 4wheelparts.com I have no clue how I could get a deal on those to since I will have to buy rims as well.

Does anyone know anything about the Hankook Dynapro MT, someone recommended them to me and I have read a lot about how good they are.

I've read nothing but good things about them however I believe it was member "scarecrow" had said he once had a set and was very disappointed. If he doesn't chime in maybe just PM him and ask.

MttSnook 11-29-2007 03:45 PM

Thanks, I didn't really know how they would fair on a full-size truck. I have seen them on an FJ forum and those guys really love them.

Matt

LOGANSTANFORTH 11-29-2007 07:38 PM

i mounted a set of 315-70-17 dynapro's on a dodge for a buddy of mine, paid 800 exactly shipped to me, good tires, rode well and lasted pretty good.....it was a 2003 2500 dodge with a cummins

the owner of 4wheel parts is Greg Adler, he is a jackoff, only way i will buy from them is that if they got it in stock from the store or are REALLY low on something. i go through national tire and wheel for 90% of my stuff.....

MttSnook 11-30-2007 12:28 PM

Yea, a lot of people have really like the Hankooks. I just haven't heard anything regarding treadlife. The people that have them have all had them for maybe 4000 miles at most. But, the reviews are very good for road noise and mud/trail traction.

Looks like I am not buying anything from 4wheelparts.com anymore. Haha gotta love the fact just being a dick to 3 or so customers can kill your business. Not a very stand-up way to do business if you asked me.

Matt

Nitelord 11-30-2007 01:39 PM

I ordered my rims and Hankooks from Discount Tire Direct.
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do

They were a deal at the time. Mounted and balanced. They balance the rim first then mount the tires and balance the combo.

I'm not happy with the wear I'm getting, but that is probably due in part to my lead foot.

The wheels and tires came balanced for DTD. I'm hoping to get through winter with them and replace them in the spring. I think I'm going BFG's this time around. I like the Toyo's, but everytime I get a quote, they are back-ordered.:argh:

Anyway. That's my $.02 on the hankooks...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Sorry. I have a little over 7000 miles on them and a little less than half the tread depth I started with.

That includes several events in which I lost traction in the parking lot at work and twice in my own driveway. Not sure what happened, but it created a lot of smoke...:w2:.

mpmilkey 11-30-2007 01:45 PM

I am running the nittos 37-14.5/20 they are really quiet for an all terrain and have been holding up great!

MttSnook 11-30-2007 02:46 PM

It looks like its either going to be the Nittos or the Coopers, anyone have any pics of 35" nittos on a 16x8 rim?

Matt

dalton06 12-04-2007 04:22 PM

I've used discount tire a couple times and they seem good. On my last set I checked at walmart they they were the cheapest around. Ordering them and out the door

MttSnook 12-04-2007 05:15 PM

What type of tires did you go with?

scarecrow 12-05-2007 01:49 PM

yea i had a set of 315/75/16 hankook dynapro m/t rt03`s....as far as traction the tires were good in everything i had em in. now for the bad. 2 of the 4 tires had a wobble i could not get rid of and tread life was a joke. by the time i got them off the truck they had 3/32 tread left on em and they had about 18,000 miles on em.they did not even make it 1 year on my truck and i rotated em every 3,000 miles because of how quick they were wearing. i took them to a hankook dealer and asked them to do something because there is something wrong. and hankook said tuff. the problem was not with the tire but with my truck. my reply to that was first off i take pride in my truck and there is nothing wrong with it. second if there was something wrong with my truck the tires would not be wearing even. and the tech agreed with me and stood in my corner however hankook still said tuff...

as far as 4wheel parts add me to the list of people who had problems with em charging my card and never shipping the product. i will never order from them again...

like i said before i am now running the pro comp A/T `s in a 315/75/16 and i am very happy with the tire. this is my 4th set of pro comps and 2nd set of A/T`s. the tire runs perfect down the road and they are not even balanced. snow and wet traction is great. and 50,000 mile tread life warranty you cant beat that espically if you get the buy 3 get 1 free deal....which they should be offering they do every year around xmas....

I not to much of a fan for the bfg all-terrains, I wasn't impressed when I had them on my jeep they clog real easy and did not provide any traction when the snow got deeper...but my first gen. has 10ply michelins on it...way to heavy for what I need the truck for and they have 50,000miles on them and not the greatest when the roads get slick or the snow starts to build up...so Im looking for a more aggressive tread all terrain that are budget friendly....any ideas?

MttSnook 12-06-2007 08:03 AM

I think I am going to go with the Cooper S/T, I will let you know how they fair.

Matt

Dr. Evil 12-06-2007 09:04 AM

Have a look at the Toyo M-55's - they are supposed to wear like iron. Problem is, they dont make them larger than a 285.
