Lowering my 03 dodge 4x4 to the ground

Has anyone done this? If so how do I attack this

94Matt 11-28-2009 12:28 PM

First step would be remove any blocks from the rear axle, after that you're gonna have to get custom springs front and rear depending on how low you want to go. I don't think there is much room for the axle on the front to go much lower and still have any travel though.

cumminsdad08 11-28-2009 12:32 PM

didn't someone post up a dodge with crazy low airbags at somepoint. but that might have been a two wheeler. i don't know much about going down, i usually go up.

Hairy beast 11-28-2009 12:33 PM

How much lower can the front go ?

Spurrit 02-13-2010 04:24 AM

Just move to Mexico and get it over with, idiot. :td:

chadillac 02-13-2010 07:57 AM

I think you could put half ton springs in the front. But i'm not exactly sure do some research online i had say a guy in one of my diesel power mags that had half ton springs.

crane 02-17-2010 08:02 PM

why dont you just get a2wheel drive they make 4x4's for a reason:moon::ouch:

SmokeN 12 ValvE 02-17-2010 08:50 PM

I took the blocks out of the rear, and kept the 1500 springs in the front of mine. I am waiting until I get the engine put back together so I can see exactly how the will front sit and I'll adjust the rear up or down to level it.

Spurrit 02-18-2010 06:27 AM

You can heat the springs a little at a time. That, or trade it for a "vato" outfit and a chrome bicycle with a velvet seat.

cumminsdad08 02-19-2010 09:52 AM

well i think its safe to say, this guy aint coming back here again

Can you think of anyone you respect that wouldn't think a dropped one ton 4X4 is assinine?

I personally think that jacked up trucks are ugly. A lowered one ton or 3/4 ton drag/street truck is a good looking truck and serves its purpose. No need to try and run some one off because of your opinion, the man asked how to go about doing it, not if you liked it or not.

Spurrit 02-19-2010 06:15 PM

What purpose do they serve? :humm: Identifying the owner as a queer? :choochoo:I never said anything about jacking them up; most folks seem to take that too far and ruin the handling, but for folks that USE them, it makes sense. Personally , I really don't think I'd go over 4".

It helps reduce drag and for the people that USE lowered 4x4's for drag racing, it makes sense, plus they have the added traction of 4wd.

The thread was almost three months old when you brought it back up to bash on someone for their personal preference. In my opinion 87-91 F-150/bronco were the worst looking front end Ford trucks had, but I didn't bring up one of your threads to tell you that. Just saying the OP must of liked lower trucks enough to ask about it.

Spurrit 02-19-2010 06:55 PM

I bought my truck because it was a hell of a deal and for what it can do; looks never entered the equation. If I were worried about your opinion, I'd probably do something about the rust. :moon:

SmokeN 12 ValvE 02-19-2010 07:07 PM

All I am saying is that everyone has their own opinion, and they shouldn't be called an "idiot" or "queer"(unless they actually like men, but that's a whole different story), because their opinion differs from yours.

I like my lowered 4x4.

Spurrit 02-19-2010 07:36 PM

And that's just fine

Hairy beast 01-01-2011 12:38 PM

Thanks for all the constructive info.from some of you. I use this truck for work and I pull a trailer to the race track thats why 4X4 is handy. But the climbing in and out of the back for work is a pain. I still have't done it yet. Wondering if air bags on the front would do the trick. The rear I think can be done by just removeing the spacers under the leafs
Thanks

Youngblood 01-01-2011 11:19 PM

Yo man, I personally wouldn't lower my truck, but I've seen some pretty sweet dodges that have been lowered to the ground to the point the frame can drag. Just ignore Spurrit, the way he speaks makes him sound uneducated and childish. So until he is PAYING for your truck, his opinion makes no difference. Let him sit behind his computer screen getting off on bashing other peoples rides.

Hairy beast 01-02-2011 09:03 PM

Thanks Young blood,

02LB7DURAMAX 01-02-2011 09:22 PM

Amen to those of you that helped this guy out:tu: Thats what DB is about, not bashing each other and calling names.:td:

TheCumminskid 06-26-2011 04:15 AM

Hey man, don't let anybody hate on you for your style...I have a 97 dodge ram 2500 4x4 cummins I'm about to lower to. Haters gonna hate. And remember dodge doesn't circle the problem on the front of there trucks and ford backwards stands for "driver returns on foot". So think before you talk shit.

I would also advise you to think before you speak. Almost ALL of your previous comment is direct quotes from bumper stickers displayed by douchebags. Please let us know when you have an original thought.:pca1:

cummins freak 06-26-2011 10:19 AM

I think there is a red dodge lowered some that was a cover truck for Diesel power a few months ago I personally that that lowered a little bit on 285's looks great and for drag strip or jsut driving on the pavement its the way to go!

TheCumminskid 06-26-2011 02:10 PM

Dude do you even own a diesel?

Spurrit 06-26-2011 02:12 PM

Me? Of course! I can't haul horses and cattle in a Prius! :bat:

TheCumminskid 06-26-2011 02:16 PM

Oh nevermind, I'd talk shit to every body to if I couldn't afford a cummins...you drive a V8 that has a diesel top end...buy a real truck.

Spurrit 06-26-2011 02:19 PM

If you knew anything, you'd realise just how much more economical my truck is than a newer model. I can put it in the shop and replace ALL the injectors for the price of two powerstroke or cummins injectors. The mileage is a little better, and I just happen to like my truck. :tttt:

TheCumminskid 06-26-2011 02:38 PM

Actually I know alittle more than you think I do. Iv been to college for diesel tech, I'm ASE certified and iv been building my own diesel motors since I was 16, I'm 22 now. As far as putting my truck in the shop, that doesn't happen. My 97 dodge ram 2500 4x4 cummins, is getting 27 to 28 mpg.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

But just because you don't like something that someone else is doing doesn't give you the right to bad mouth people. My personal opinion, I don't like powerchokes or duramax tampons but I know this site isn't just about me so I don't voice my opinion because I know there's other people here that do like em. And I'm about to lower mine for drag racing to, the only reason we lower 4x4s is to get them lower to grows for wind resistance and so we can launch off the line. Sry you don't like that but hey we don't care.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Ground

Spurrit 06-26-2011 02:40 PM

I have no doubt that you have the technical knowledge or skills. Just no life experience. The point I was making is that I can put my truck in the shop for what you'll spend on parts alone.
My truck is plenty fast, and only lacks a sixth gear!:dang:

TheCumminskid 06-26-2011 02:44 PM

Actually I have the skills to...

I ment experience

zach_west 06-26-2011 06:42 PM

I like the guy above. I don't like anything newer than 03 dodge. I've had a 6.5 pos. I've had ford 7.3's good but no power. the 6.9s even worse. but hey it's my personal opinion and everybodys is different. i love p-pumped 12vs. I see no problem with lowering a 4x4 for a specific purpose. if he likes it that way he can have it his way. If you paid for his pickup then you could do it your way. good luck on lowering it and post up pics or any info you get so others can do it.

TheCumminskid 06-26-2011 08:56 PM

Thanks man. And I'll post some pics and info when I'm through.

Hairy beast search on here for lowered 4x4, there's a guy with a silver 03-05 dodge ram 2500 4x4 4 door short bed that's lowered down on 18s that he uses for diesel racing but he could give you alot of info on how to do your. Put some build up pics when you get through. If you need anymore help just ask.

Man the guy was just asking for some info and some people had to go all asshole on him. Just cause you can call someone queer or an idiot through the computer doesnt make you cool or tough. Just makes all of us think you should of been a blow job. Just my opinion though.

Spurrit 07-07-2011 05:16 PM

I honestly can't recall the last time my strength or toughness was questioned.

vcustoms86 07-07-2011 05:20 PM

ok? Your point?

Real men work on their own pickups and don't take them to a shop. :tu:

Just kinda amused me when I realised that.

I work on mine when I can, but simply am not a mechanic. I suppose you're not much of a horse trainer or horseshoer. But whhere I come from, a real man rides his own broncs and shoes his own mounts. :humm: weall have different skill sets. Right now, I'm shoeing a diesel mechanic's horse. Earlier, he was working on my truck. We just go with our strengths and what we prefer doing. I'm on here to learn what I can.
