Well thanks for the nice comments. Yes ive painted the wheels, grill shell, rear bumper, door moldings and front lower bumper cover.

The wheels were the cheesy chrome skinned ones that i spent hours peeling and painting. I used Krylon hammered with clear over the top and several coats of primmer.

Headlights are dodge night runner which was a special edition on the 06 1500's.

I ve been happy with the way it turned out, just wish i would have went a little bigger on the tires to balance the oversized cab.

I hate the way stock height Megas look, they are out of balance with the cab being bigger than the bed and all. a little lift and bigger tires makes it look a little better

Toyos have always treated me right

very nice mega cab. ive always had good luck with toyos. i was in the wheel/tire and truck acc. business for a few years before i went into the pipeline.

just what ever you do, stay away from nitto mud grapplers.

It is very likely the fact you need a steering stabilizer and an adjustable track bar.

I think you may be on to something here..


I just installed CArli adj trac bar and it is better. The pull is not allways there, now it seems to be a crown of the road type pull where if it catches a rut or crack it will follow it. So ill be going for a stabalizer now.

I Painted My Own On My Early 3rd Gen But Apparently It's A Walk In The Park Compared To 06+'s

when I did the leveling kit on my 01 with the aftermarket rims that were off my dads 99 I could not clear the 35's they rubbed on the fender pretty bad. But I have talked to a lot of different people running the toyo's and they swear by them even for off road use. I recently picked up a weber carb off a guy and he has a tacoma running 39" toyo's and says he will never use anything else and he wheels the crap outta his truck. also stated they wear well and get a lot of miles out of them.

i just bought a set of 35/12.50-20 toyo open country m/t's today. i love them!!! way better than my old 37/12.50-20 mud crapplers, i will never buy those tires again.

Ok, so what about running these on the HWY? How loud are they and does it really matter? I mean, my truck is loud so who cares right?

The tires I buy have to be good in the wet (heavy rain and wet snow) and they have to net equal or better economy.

Using this formula:
RPM = MPH*Final Gear Ratio*366/Tire Dia.
With 285's (33") I get an RPM with my 3.54 NV5600 of 1862. If I go up to 35" the same resultant changes to 1756 which would beg the question would this save fuel?:humm:
