beginner pistol
like it says, what would be a good cheap pistol to get started with? i figure a 9mm would be a cheap round. but idk what brand would be good for the price.
|
I vote glock.
|
What do you mean "get started"?
What kind of background do you have with firearms? And yes for a first time handgun its hard to beat 9mm. |
very little, last gun i shot was a 20 gauge bout 7 years ago. never shot a pistol
i know that sounds like someone who doesnt need to be around a fire arm lol, but i know all the basics. what im wanting is a good gun, i can put a ton of ammunition through, and not have many problems. |
Get a RUGER MARK II 22LR, awesome shooting gun, very ACCURATE:tu:
|
Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm.........
|
.50 AE Desert Eagle.
Save up for two of them, then you can use one in each hand. :choochoo: |

Another vote for Glock here. Got 2 or 3 of them now with over 10000 rounds thru em. no issue yet.

Now if ya just gotta have a center-fire, The Smith & Wesson M&P and Glocks (sorry Rampy) mentioned above are both fine choices. May I also suggest the Springfield XDm. These 3 are all polymer-framed pistols and each has it's own cult following. I've shot versions in all 3. All have been 100% reliable but I prefer the XDm (points more natural) with the M&P a close 2nd. The new 4th Gen Glocks are supposed to feel very good in the hand, but I haven't fondled one yet. |
I would say go with a 22lr at first. But if you want a centerfire 9mm is best bang for your buck. I love my xdm and my CZ75, but cant stand a glock:td:. But you can get a used or police trade in Glock cheaper, and will serve you just fine(if you like the grip:humm:). You definitely need to go and atleast hold some and see what you like, its all about the grip, if you dont fit the gun you wont shoot it to your best ability. Good luck with the search!

I like my CZ-75 9MM, it's a excellent gun:tu:

Something all kinds of jacked up about a union thug/lover who refuses to buy American union products..... Till you nutt up an put your money where your mouth is....your credibility is less than zero.... |
why is it every thread has to come down to friggen unions. it has nothign to do with this thread.
so either talk about pistols, or gtf out of the thread. thank you and have a nice day |
i'd vote for a revolver, probably in 357 mag. so you can use 38spl to shoot in it also. Revolvers aren't picky on how you hold it, or if you limp wrist it, it is less likely malfunction.
I love the EAA Windicator, they can be had for a little over $225 or so NEW. good solid pistol. |

id say go with a hi point, greatest firearm ever made, i mean seriously. no dont do that, i couldnt even keep a straight face typin that. id go with a nice revolver, .357 so you can shoot .38 like previously said. mabey a ruger blackhawk thats about 400-450 bucks, used ones cheaper, nice single action. if your wanting an auto, i never used to like glocks, but now i got one in .357 sig and i love it, they feel goofy at first, but youll either like it or wont. the ruger SR9 is pretty popular, not a bad feel. but 9mm a cheap round, i bought a Beretta 92 just to shoot 9. the springfield XD's arent bad either, decent price around 450, buy the .40 and get the 9mm barrell and mags and have 2 guns. anyways lots of choices. sorry to go on for so long, i kinda like guns. :rocking:

A large frame 357 revolver.
Why? Revolvers are simple to use and they don't have parts jumping back at you every time you pull the trigger. Start with 38 specials. Mild recoil in a large frame and accurate. Once you master the 38s and get board, then you can start shooting 357s. Practical. |
every body tries to copy glock so get what every body tries to copy . thay work great and are simple
|
I got a 9mm for my first handgun and really like it. Not as cheap to feed as a .22, but cheaper than most others that I've seen, still gives good feedback without breaking your wrist. Lotsa fun to rapid fire (while observing reasonable safety rules, of course)
|
Ruger makes a good cheap pistol, around 300 bucks, dont buy a Hipoint they are JUNK.. if you can find a FEG JKP-HP its a Browning Hipower Clone and they are good guns for the price, they have a couple on Gun Broker, around 250 bucks you wont be disapointed with those... But CZ-75 are REALLY Nice, but their around 600 bucks.
|
I went from to glock just now. I love the hell outta this glock. I have a g17 which is what I would suggest.
|
Glocks are good guns, just glocks dont like me and I dont like glocks, but its not the guns fault its the shooter. Glad you like it :) Next time ill check the date on the post...
|
I prefer revolvers, longer barrel for the same size package, and I cut my teeth on an old Ruger single six (22lr) back when I was 5.
|
I just can't get use to the grip angle on Glocks. Always shooting high. Springfield XDs have the same grip angle as the good old 1911. Something I have a few (million) rounds on.
But I will always say, a revolver is the best place for anyone to start. |

I got a ruger sr9c for my ccw and it shoots great out of the box

If you're getting a revolver, I'd suggest getting one with a modern style swing-out cylinder to begin with. The traditional single action has its place, but the reload cycle gets tedious for everyday plinking IMO. Maybe I'm just too impatient. :c:
|
Id go with either a Glock or Springfield XD/ XDM in either 9mm or .40... or a .357 magnum revolver (plink .38's, but have .357's in it for the nightstand)... or one of each :choochoo:
