There are many good 1911 out there, Before you buy one, just google a review for it & you'll know which ones are the good ones:humm:

Bigg Redd 08-26-2012 12:59 PM

I have four variants already: Smith & Wesson 1911, Kimber Elite 1911, Springfield Armory 1911, and Colt 1911. I dont think I'll be needing any more. Of all, the Springfield has the stiffest action and higher trigger pull weight. I'll probably have some work done on this one to smooth it out. The other three have very smooth actions and relatively light trigger pull. The Colt has the least rounds through it. It was gifted to me when I retired from Popo Department 1 1/2 years ago. The S&W has the most rounds as I carried this throughout my career. It also has the smoothest action (it should after over 183 thousand rounds) and has NEVER failed me. Kudos to S&W for keeping me safe. It served me well in the 4 shootouts Ive been involved in. It was a partnership, if you will. I still carry it now as a CCW. :tu:

Yeah, thats why I bought them. Except for the Colt. They are well known tried and true pieces and have been around for a while. And, thats why I kinda shy away from other variants that seem to "pop up" IMO. Im just a ol' salty dog stuck in his ways I guess. I used to have a rather large collection of guns and rifles.

During my career, many elderly men who owned guns passed away (no sh*t huh?). Well the wives or other family would usually bring the weapons to the PD to have them destroyed. I, being the RangeMaster, would usually make a deal to buy them for just a few bucks, off duty transaction of course. I bought many quality pieces for btwn $1.00 to $6.00 a piece. I would then register them in my name. Most of the the cheapies would get dismantled and destroyed, while some were made inoperable and used for training purposes.

I ended up with 41 semi-auto pistols, 37 revolvers, 17 shotguns, and 23 various rifles.
Most all have been sold, while some of the rarer pieces have been encased in shadow boxes with police memorabilia, for display, and firing pins removed. I use/play with only a select few. I collected and used the ammunition as well. Ah, the good 'ol days.

gunman41mag 08-27-2012 08:41 AM

if i can buy guns that cheap, i would've never retired:nope:

Bigg Redd 08-27-2012 10:59 AM

Those people just wanted to get rid of them. I would give a receipt, with signatures, creating a paper trail to cover my ass.
I recently almost bought 4 antique double barrel shotguns, two of which were short barrel "coach guns" from an elderly lady (93 years of age) I met at an antique store. I inquired the origin and she did not know. She said her husband, deceased now for 5 years, came home with them and put them in the gun safe. This antique lady was an antique collector. I did some research on them for their value and such online. Turns out they are over 150 years old. I ended up finding an article regarding the theft of antique shotguns almost 6years ago from another antique store in southern New Mexico. Through additional research and contact with the owner of the antique store, I emailed photos of the ones this old lady had. Those turned out to be the pieces stolen from his store. I told the lady about the discovery. she and I later took a day trip and returned the shotguns to the owner. He was thrilled to have them back. They were family heirlooms he had on display. Who knows where these would have ended up. The old lady, whom shall remain nameless, passed away almost two weeks ago. Did I mention I retired as a Detective? "Alls well that ends well I guess"

Anyway Im happy with what I have left. The cost of ammo is what hurts. As a Popo, I used to buy cases of ammo on December of every year, and claim the purchases in my taxes. (Training purposes ya know). I would essentially get ammo for free. Now I have to buy it like every one else, and cant write it off. :td:

You buy lots of guns. Be careful and always be weary of hand to hand purchases. If the price is TOO GOOD, theres probably a hidden reason. Gun shows are norotious for stolen pieces, especially parkinglot sales. Always buy from a reputable gun dealer.

gunman41mag 08-27-2012 07:57 PM

My FFL DEALER call to tell me, he got my CASPIAN & it has a ED BROWN barrel & BO-MAR rear site:jump: can't wait to pick up my gun:nope:
