Rusty french fries? :yuck:

Does anybody know how much vinegar it takes to soak a 96 Ram 2500 ex cab, long bed ?:humm:
|
A lot more than it would take afterwards to powder coat it!! . . . .
(I like the way you think!! :yeah: ) Maybe we should make a 'vat' that will hold a large vehicle. I know of a lot of them that would benefit from it! We could make a fortune . . . . Here locally there is an oven large enough to powder coat a large vehicle so it would be a 'complete' service. (Can you imagine dis-assembling a whole vehicle so it could be de rusted and then powder coated? Then putting it back together. That would be a bunch of work!) |
also good on sunburns, who knew:humm:
|
Still best on fish and chips though.

So I tried the vinegar myth. and it is more or less busted.
Vinegar is corrosive, it loosens rust, it also increases the corrosion. I don't know how they got the pictures, but it was definetley no vinegar causing that clean surface. It does work well on alloy, it is also aggressive to the surfaces, making them dull. The prop shafts I have thrown in vinegar a week are still rusty as hell, yes, it loosened a bit, but still rusty. Vinegar may work on scale deposits, there are better things like citric acid. |
No way! I was really hoping this worked. Did you let the stuff soak for 24 hours and then hit it with a scrub brush?
|
Mike,
these shafts have been submerged a week in vinegar. Yes, the vinegar is dark brown and it solved a bit- but the shafts are still rusty. I brushed them several times with an iron brush, coarse steel wool and dishwasher brushes(which are a real waste of time!) I brought them away to get them sandblasted and powdercoated. I have to admit, that it was a try to save money. |
Apple cider vinegar helps with Heart burn/acid reflux,
1/2 a shot glass full in the morning. But be prepared it taste's Bad!!! Chase with coffee or something. This also helps with joint pain. And yes it does work on Sun Burn, Mom used to put it on us when we were kids. |
Wow! Thanks for de-mything this for us. . . . I too was really hoping it would work and work well!
I was just finally looking into the weed killer aspect: I found this link that seems pretty level headed about it all (Just like how Deezel Stink3r did his test). You can read about it on this link: Vinegar Weed Killer: Grandma's Recipe For Fast Weed Control I also thought about the cost. I really don't know what it costs per gallon, but let's just compare it to a generic Glyphosate that you can get 2 1/2 gallons for about $50. So let's call that $60 just for easy math. I mix the name brand Round Up at about 1 1/2 oz. per gallon of water. So, again for easy math let's call that 2 oz. That means that for $60 that 2 1/2 gallons of glyphosate will make you about 160 gallons of weed killing spray. I'm pretty sure that vinegar is a lot more than $1 a gallon. So I guess I busted that myth too...... I wanted it to work. Even if it was a little more than the chemical I might have used it (Of course that article talked about how it doesn't kill the root and how some weeds came back from being sprayed.). I was going to use the waste vinegar after cleaning up rusty parts. . . . Oh well. |
