Country Cummins - 1st Gen Build Thread
Well long story short, i picked up this truck up pretty much sight unseen for what i thought was a screaming deal. Once i got it home and started inspecting it closer, i didnt pick a very good truck. But after spending over a year looking for this truck for a reasonable price, just said screw it im tired of looking, this is the one. and I started digging in on a full restoration and build. Pics!

I took a GF out into the mountins for a nice drive and my transmission decides to fail out of no where. no warning signs or nothing. 14 miles out of town, with no cell service. It was a awesome hike home.. not. Truck sat in the bottom of a canyon for a week trying to figure out how to get it home. All my wheelin buddys and their little yota's and jeeps didnt have enough grunt to get my pig up the hill. Finally got a buddy out there with a very well built duramax to get me out of the canyon and back onto the main service road, in the process ripping 2 brake lines, leaving me stranded even worse. https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...24916194_n.jpg not wanting to run away down the hill with no brakes and off the cliff, it sat at the top of the hill for another 3 days. When i finally went back up to replace the brake lines, i noticed the transmission line that screws into the side of the block backed off..... :argh: screwed that back on, fixed the brakes... and it drove its self home. I also picked up a gasser parts truck while it was stuck in the woods to use for parts. One of the cleanest/straightest dodge trucks ive ever seen in this era, 4x4, 5.9, low miles, drove like a dream. Super super nice truck other than the failing paint. Picked it up for 425 bucks! First things first, was to ditch the hideous bucket seats for the bench seat out of the new parts truck.

Put in the borgeson shaft, one because mine was shot, 2 because i like the best of the best on my truck, and 3 it was needed with the lift anyways lol.

Right in here my transmission finally failed completely, so i had it professionally rebuilt, then of course took it out to play!

HA... was a couple feet deep and of course that really wet heavy icey snow thats been sitting around melting for ever... closest to stuck ive ever been in this truck, but she still pulled her self out after awhile. So 900 miles after i get my truck back from the tranny shop, here we are again... https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...06137200_n.jpg needless to say spending thousands on a transmission to last 900 miles was NOT my version of happy or money well spent. I've fought and fought and fought with the shop and they wont stand behind it or fix it. They looked at it and determined it was my cooling system, and said tought luck your problem. my stock transmission cooler works perfectly fine, not to mention my 2nd aftermarket cooler that works even better. I tore the transmission out and apart my self and learned that my torque converter wasn't replaced, and a couple other things they cut corners on. it was 100% with out a doubt their fault and not mine. But crap happens i guess. Thanks guys! sorry no updates! work is absolutely dragging right now, and life is busy as shit. between the lack of money and time i havent even installed my cab lights or finished door panels. but hopefully here quick i'll have my transmission back in the truck and i'lll be more motivated to finish it then.

Everythings offically ordered or at my house, and getting ready for install. Hopefully this time next week my truck will be half way back on the road. still need a few other things before its driveable....

Got the pod mostly finished today. Its drying its last (hopefully) coat right now, then just need to sand it out, and maybe a little body filler.

well one more expensive step closer to finished. Transmission fluid, motor oil, and power steering fluid (really need to buy a new steering box).

got a few updates. been wiping up all the little things.

Well my wiring is so freaking screwed from head to toe. this is going to be a NIGHTMARE. my headlights/park lights only work when they want too for no rhyme or reason. my turn singals dont work at all, except sometimes all 4 flash! stereo doesnt work, horn doesnt work, windshield wipers dont work, passenger side window/door lock switches dont work, but they operate from the drivers side. truck doesnt always shut down when you turn the key off... i could seriously go on... its a nightmare. i guess next project is completely rewiring the truck from head to toe. I'll probably end up buying a painless wiring kit for a hotrod and adapting it into the diesel and be done with ever thing those crappy dodge engineers did in there.

Me and my buddy both ground are fuel pins it adds alot of smoke and noticeable power if you grind it more. The nice thing about grinding it is you can keep grinding little by little until its perfect for you :tu:

well I just cant win. ever since I bought the truck my driveline was always angled at the U joint by the carrier bearing. never questioned it much at the time. until this episode. so the shop that installed my transmission must not have tightened all the bolts on the crossmember. as the passenger side all came lose and now its hanging down. which made my driveline angle just a little bit more at the u joint and hit my gas tank puncturing a hole in it.... So I redrilled the holes in the carrier bearing mount and moved it all over about an inch so now the driveline goes straight down the truck. I patched the hole in the tank, and now I just need to go get 5 nuts and bolts to bolt the crosssmember back to the frame. and then fill it back up with diesel since I lost about 50 bucks worth of fuel... I just cant win I tell ya. trucks cursed. on top of that it has another bad oil leak.
I also feel like my trans is running way to hot in OD. cruising down the freeway in OD at 70mph I can easily see temps at 260 degrees. even with my probe being in the hot line, this seems way to hot to me. specially when I was pulling a hill in 3rd at 55 and only seeing 160 degrees. cruising in 3rd at 55 I can see temps as low as 140 on the hot line. any input on that? other than those little twerks, trucks been running pretty good. picked up a better set of 35's I need to get mounted up.
