Midwest diesel trucks?
 

I'm looking to buy a diesel again and I've found this place (name in title) located in Decatur Illinois has a lot of cummins in stock all the time. Has anyone bought from them or heard anything about them? Are they good people or should I just keep looking? Thanks guys!

Here was my experience with Midwest Diesel Trucks, facts will only be stated here:
I called about an 03 Cummins quad cab with 245,xxx miles. Was told the truck was in excellent running condition and strongly encouraged to put down a $500 deposit to hold the truck. After talking with 3 people at Midwest Diesel Trucks and getting as much info as they would give, I went ahead with the deposit. I then ran my own carfax on the truck and saw that in 04/28/2009 the truck was serviced at a dealer in Arkansas with around 245,897 miles. So from 04/28/2009 - current date (02/07/12) the truck only had like 150 miles put on it. So I called the Dodge service department in Arkansas from the Carfax report. I provided the VIN to the guy who ran the history. He said the truck was brought in and the engine was "severely internally damaged" from leaking injectors and the repair bill would have been almost $10,000. He said the owner had them put the truck back together and came and picked it up. The truck was then sold at auction in Texas where MDT purchased it as "inoperable". After learning this I called MDT right away and demanded my money back, of course they refused so now I am battling my Visa Debit Card/Bank to get my money back on a truck I never purchased. It's a mess, but not near the mess it could of been if I had bought the truck and found out later it needed the engine. Right now I am out $500 but I think I am getting it back based on what Visa told me.

Now for my opinion:
Lesson learned for me that their prices are too good to be true. Check out Better Business Bureau, they had complaints there and the also have complaints on ripoffreport.com
I would never buy anything from them.

NOW HEAR THIS!!!! I was a dealer in Illinois and am here to tell you that if you call the Ill; Sec. of State Police and file a complaint, you WILL get your money back.

I've sold cars in 3 states and it's FEDERAL law that when you buy a vehicle you don't show "ownership" of it till it goes across their curb! It the business it's called "curbing a car".

I had a similar experience but luckily not out any $. I found a truck online and it looked like a good deal but the carfax showed it had only been driven a few hundred miles in the last 3 years. I called and asked about it and was told it had been in the shop for a while getting new injectors and the previous owner hardly drove it. When I went to look at it the spedo and odometer were not functional so who knows how many miles it had but I'm sure it was a lot more than was listed.

My Fiancé found a truck on their website, called and put the $500.00 deposit down. Then Midwest Diesel sold the truck to another customer. One of the people listed on their website from Midwest Diesel called and spoke with my Fiancé and told him of the mistake and offered the other truck that they had available for the same price. Although they stated they would charge him an extra $100.00 for tinting the windows (which I believe the window's were already tinted they were just trying to get extra money). I called and spoke with someone from Midwest Diesel and told him that they should be fixing their mistake. They should offer all of the things that were on the original truck to my Fiancé free of charge. Since it was their mistake. He was not helpful at all and stated they were already giving him a good deal. He stated that he did not need our business after I told him that I would be putting what they did to my Fiancé on the internet. My Fiancé called and spoke with another sales person or manager and asked them to reimburse the $500.00 deposit that he put down, which they did. He also stated that he would be speaking with the person that I spoke with regarding the way he spoke with me. I just feel that the person I spoke with has no customer service abilities. And I feel that it is wrong what they did to my Fiancé.

I was literally going to head down that way today, thank god I caught this and wont waste my time

My experience on July 27 2013,
Talked to several in personable people at Midwest diesel (wow), sent pics of my trade explained details of my truck they said no problem $8000 value which is same as 3 other dealerships said so far enough drove 10hours with girlfriend and child to find out that my trade was now only worth 5000 because I didn't send enough pics so after negotiating with owner (who is very arrogant cause your wasting his time with my junk) had me right where he wanted me cause lets face it I drove 10hours so stupid me bought truck of my dreams that I've saved forever for came to notice oil leak which I asked his mechanic to look at, the owner said it wasn't big deal I could have someone fix back home (great business). So left made it 30miles and trucked dropped power so I called him he said I should check filter I said you send mechanic so his so called mechanic who lives 2 hours in opposite direction called and said its probably dirt I should try driving so I called owner and said what should I do he said bring here if you want I won't be here but you can drop off and I will try to get someone to look at it maybe Sunday well I had to get back home so I said call me back when you find mechanic needless to say its now Sunday 6:15 and still now call so as far as he knows my family is still sitting along road but we got home 15 hours later due to 45 pullovers tow truck and finding out at advanced auto that a code for injector 1 being bad was erased according to Illinois law he has to inform me of any mechanical problems even as is so this issue is far from over
P.s. thank god kid was along or I would probably be in jail in illinois

I went there and every thing they told me was a lie. I set up an account on db just so I could hopfully keep at least one person from wasting there time. I was told truck had no mods on it and that it ran great and was in good condition. They were right it had no mods, but it did have plenty of extra wires where some type of mod was. The interior was a wreck and all the pics they had did a very good job of hiding the smashed dash and all the Tares in the seats, the paint was scratched and faded. So I went inside cause I was still interested in the truck but just for less money. Apon entering the building no one was there so I said hello and some kid came out and he asked what I thought so I told him the above problems and he tells me that all those things are standard with dodge and they weren't coming down on the price and then he asked what I was trading in so he went looked at my truck and said we don't take trades that are gas only diesel. I said the guy on the phone said no prob on my truck. Needless to say if your thinking about a truck here don't do it. I wouldn't even look at a truck if I lived in that town

two years ago I bought my first truck 02 7.3 from them with 236k. When I got it home realized it needed ball joints, and had transmission damage. I accepted it. The truck wasn't the one had my eye on though. I wanted a 01 crew cab looked dam good, but after the wait to start light it cranked insanely fast(low compression) and poured white smoke on a day it was 70 degrees! The salesman came out and claimed it just needed the batteries charged lol. as I was crawling around the 02 a car hauler came with a load of dodges, fords, and chevys. I only saw him unload a common rail dodge, and that truck smoked like crazy at idle(Serious engine damage). I was in there shop too and their isn't more than turtle wax and a harbor freight jack. Their not going to fix those trucks just hide the problems. I also inquired about a trade for a cummins and they asked me how much I was looking for. I said around 9k(high I know, bought it for 9,500 but done a lot of cosmetic upgrades) I thougt they would shoot me a counter offer. No, they told me I'm crazy and to have a nice day lol

Thanks to this thread a few trucks I looked at online from this place I didn't waste my time going out there to get. I called them once and they gave vague answers but the prices and pics were tempting. This was the only thread I could find from all diesel forums which surprises me if they are this bad.
