Anyone running rock sliders on their truck. If so, where did you get them. Thanks
|
Anyone??
|
Forgive my ignorance, but what the hell are rock sliders????
Maybe i got em and dont know???lol lol |
we got a guy here local that does all our tube work for the price of the steel on my friend Jay's rock crawler.......ill try and get some pics of the work he did when we swapped the high pinion dana 44 8 lug and full float 8 lug dana 60 under Jay's TJ Jeep Wrangler and all the brackets he made for the 10 inch Rock Krawler lift with 10 inch wheelbase stretch.....meanwhile here's some i found.....

Nice pix.
I was thinking about sliders instead of the stupid side steps I have. They just don't make nerf bars like they used too. The last three sets I've had all rusted from the inside out. Pure crap... |
I have the westin tube steps right now, and they just hang too low for what I want to do. It looks like anything that I want to do is going to have to be custom built by someone. The search continues.

Good Luck :U:

I built my own
3" square tubing that come out to exactly the edge of the tires I call em side impact rails I fabbed em up then had bedliner sprayed on em........very tough |
i knew you had some but couldnt find any pics of your truck.....
|
Cool. I may have to try and make me some that are like that! Did you weld them to your frame or just bolt them on?

they just bolt up...there is a bracket that goes to one of the front cab mounts and another to the rear bed mount then I have a kicker in the middle that comes up tween the cab and front of the box...................its all very solid I will see if I can get some better pics fer ya |

here are better pics of em

Cool. Thanks for the pictures. If I am unable to find anything already made, I may just try to make them. Those pics help me a lot on how the mounting would go. I have a welder, but I am far from good at it. May take a while if I have to make them.

Thanks for the pics....Nope, I dont have those...lol lol

Just remember our trucks are a wee bit heavier than the Toyota or Jeep pictured.
So don't be surprised if you land on a rock and have to roll down the window to get out of the truck because the "rockslider" folded up over your door. Unless you have something like Whitmore. (Even then, his is probably stronger than the frame it is attached to.) |
i was just using them as representation.....the ones we are building for the jeep will tie the front bumper to the rear bumper......
|
Yeah I know our trucks are a lot heavier than Jeeps and Toyota’s. I think I am going to make my own out of 2x2 square tubes. These things are going to be beefy. I have an idea of how I want them to look so I just need to purchase the stock and I will be able to get started. I will be doing some light off roading and going on some trails, and the rock sliders will just make the truck a little more capable off road.

buy the heaviest tube ya can find
|
Yeah. Do you think 1/8 inch square pipe is thick enough? Seems like it would be heavy duty.

no...that aint even close tubing goes by gages if I remember right ...............the 3" I used was like 1/4" thick and they had some heavier stuff there |
Hmm. Maybe I did not use the online calculator correctly to convert them. Anyways I was looking at 2x2 that i believe it says its 11 guage and is 3.067 pounds per foot. Does this even sound right? Again I am not quite sure on how thick it should be, but once I see the stock in my hands I think I will be able to tell if it is thick enough. Let me know if I am going about this in the wrong direction.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Ok. Just got back from looking at some metal. 1/8 inch is way too thin. I saw some 1/4 inch and it looks like it will work great. It seemed very strong and sturdy. Now I just got to buy some stock and start welding. |
best way to test it.....jack the truck up using the slider, if it goes up fine and dont bend anything your good to go......if not, well.....
|
Bet that is a good way to test it!

Mopar makes rock sliders for the Power Wagon. Theyll fit on any swb 3rd gen. They were $500 thru my dealer.
|
I looked at the Mopar rock sliders, but to me they don't seem too strong.
Rowdy- I am thinking about going with a design like that, I just want the sliders to be as strong as can be. I'm still working things out to get everything in order to do this. Keep the good ideas comming guys! |
