Finally made it over here. I'll start with your last post from rv.net:

My bed is the same. Easy access to top of engine. Any other suggestions or improvements you can think of, let me know. I would like some gauges also.

you should be able to pm now as i fixed some things on your account.


it will be easy to change injectors on yours then, having easy access. i like these injectors for all around use on a trailer toter or an rv such as yours. several of our idaho members have these, dick davis and launie for example and get 2 or 3 mpg increase if driven correctly.

for any rig towing, BOMB'ed for power especially but even stock guages are mandatory. i will guide you on guages thru pm. my choce is di-pricol but unfortuneately that company must be going thru a difficult time as it is impossible to fill orders, however i know someone who has some new on shelf. the ISB needs a fuel pressure guage and i suggest the westach fuel pressure guage geno's garage sells. i use di-pricol for pyro/boost/trans temp with a switch to check rear temp. harold makes a 'guage saver T' so your boost guage doubles as a backpresure guage for your exhaust brake.

i mentioned my fondness for the edge EZ for 24v trucks but the RV's have a different ecm and edge makes an adapter to use the doge cummins EZ on the motorhomes. unfortuneatly a respected friend in the business tried the adapter EZ combo on 5 different RV's with no success so i retract my advice of going with an EZ for your application.

the mild injectors will give you a little boost and a little mpg gain and have reasonable EGT also.

hopefully launie will get on and voice his opinion of his injectors.

also forgot to mention. on 98.5s a guy should considor changin out the injector tubes. the 99+ were a little better and took to injector changes better without deforming. my 98.5 did ok with 3 inj changes but i swaped to new style after installing the 4th set. [stock to 275s, to the dr pos injectors, then back to the 275s the next day. then dd2's 6 months after with new tubes]

you may not need new tubes however some recomend them. price range used to be from 50 to 90 bucks.

many have forgotten this with the 98.5's. as i say may not even need to worry bout it but a possibility.

another alternative for guages to save a few bucks.

several members are trying these now.

id still use westach fuel pressure from geno's though as it has proven most reliable.

The injector tube issue is on the early 98.5s, I had some info somewhere that had the engine serial number info, will see if I can find it. Might be in the garage.

Sorry, I would have replied earlier but I was in the hosp. Kidney stone. Couldn't pass it so they went in and got it.

I went to EBAY and those gauges look nice. And the injector info was great also. I will be following this site for more great info.

Sorry for the hijack, but you brought up some questions that have been bothering me Muddy.
What are the trouble signs of bad injector tubes? I have a bit of leakage around where the injector line goes into the head. Also, where do you get the injector tubes at that low a price Muddy?

my 98.5 didnt leak, i changed tubes as a P M due to others having leaking issues. i never personally saw a leakage from the tubes on 98.5's but i remember harold did on one rig. quiz him at the meet.

way back when,,,,,,,,,, my tubes came from DD. now i would get a hold of rip. he has em on the shelf. prices may have changed. 90 was the going rate but my memory was 50$ was a possibility. that was several years ago now.
