SMOKE'T OUT

SO TODAY WAS MY LAST DAY AT THE SHOP WHERE I WORK, SO I HAD FUN TEST DRIVING CUSTOMERS VEHICLES, I WAS DRIVING A 2000 RAM 3500 DUALLY WITH A TURNED UP 24 VALVE, BIG TURBO, 5 INCH EXHAUST, ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES, SO I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, POWER BRAKED IT A LITTLE, (JUST TO SEE WHAT THE TURBO WAS BOOSTING AT LOW RPM) AND I TOOK OFF AT A STOP LIGHT GOT ABOUT 20 YARDS FROM THE LIGHT AND A TOYOTA CAMRY PULLS UP AND THE DRIVER YELLS "GET THAT SH*T FIXED BITCH!" AT WHICH POINT I REALIZE I FILLED HIS ENTIRE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WITH THICK BLACK DIESEL SOOT, AND THEN PROCEEDED TO LAUGH MY ASS OFF ALL THE WAY TO THE NEXT EXIT A MILE DOWN THE HIGHWAY!:rocking::rocking:

i must have put about $2 worth of fuel through his window.:ha:

95powersmoker 11-05-2011 12:30 PM

Make sure to credit the customer his fuel back then....

cumminsf150 11-05-2011 01:51 PM

but on a serious note, we did a ratio change from 3.55s to a 4.10, and it seemed to me like the shift points were off, it was a 2000 and i assume its got the 47re, or what ever the dodge auto is, does anyone know if that truck will learn how to run with those gears or if it needs to be re-programed?

monster12valve 11-05-2011 08:43 PM

what shop was it? so i know not to take my truck there.:humm:

white93 11-06-2011 09:21 AM

This is why I work on my own stuff. If someone did that to my truck they would get a beating.:bat:

NadirPoint 11-06-2011 12:04 PM

So let me get this straight: you are abusing a customer's truck in a test drive for which you are not qualified, and enjoy annoying other motorists with excessive smoke? Is that about right?

Let me guess: you were either fired or laid off to make room for a slightly more intelligent grease monkey.

wow you're a nice guy, yes i abused a customers vehicle by driving it normally, and by slightly loading the engine by holding the brake and toutching the throttle for a few seconds to get a feel of how the turbo acted, and some how i am responsible for how the owner of the truck has his fuel system tuned, and the ridiculous amount of soot this guys truck put out is my fault.

I would love to hear why im not qualified to drive a pickup truck down the feeder road? I guess the fact that i was the only employee there that has a class a commercial drivers license just isnt enough.

and no friend, i was not fired, they dont fire you and then ask you to give them two weeks, I actually took a job offer with Peterbilt because they were offering me about 4 dollars an hour more than what im currently making.

It was supposed to be a funny story about how someone else's poorly tuned diesel got me yelled at, but Its real nice that you take it as i must be an idiot, and that i got fired for being an in-ept grease monkey who is not qualified to drive a dodge truck.:tu:you should call my service manage and ask him what type of employee i was, his name is marvin he will be back on tuesday, 512 454 1488

95powersmoker 11-06-2011 12:51 PM

No my friend. It's the fact that you knew this diesel was poorly tuned, you power breaked the truck at a stop light with this knowledge and smoked out another driver and then laughed about it...

Pretty unprofessional if you ask me... How would you like somebody driving your truck like a punk kid?

cumminsf150 11-06-2011 01:20 PM

well i think the whole point of the story was that i didnt realize that it was going to do that, and that there happened to be a car with an open window right next to the exhaust pipe, i laughed at the situation because, what the hell else could i do, do you think i enjoy looking like a prick, driving a truck shooting out plumes black soot? i dont.. i dont do that with my diesel, and yes its un-professional, but what would be the professional way to drive a truck that shoots out black smoke at normal throttle? And i didnt drive it like a punk ass kid, I loaded up the engine with the brake, thats a normal procedure for checking for driveline issues and other things, power braking dosent always have to mean you roast/spin the tires. Either way i have read all sorts of posts on diesel forums over the years of people intentionally smoking out people and its always laughed off, and made into a joke. I suppose if i just said "i drove my buddies truck, and it smogged out some honda" then it would be all laughs.

95powersmoker 11-06-2011 01:31 PM

Idk.... Maybe not powerbrake it at a stoplight where other cars are or could be...

If you knew it smoked at normal throttle, you knew it would smoke with the brake and accelerator held... And not even your truck, it's somebody who is paying you for a service and I doubt that included do whatever the hell you want with it while testing the work you did. You knew it smoked, you knew what you were doing at the light...

It's not funny, I used to love diesel power and now it's just about smoke and blowing smoke on the guy in the Prius... Pretty pathetic...

Anyways, congrats on the new job. :c:

cumminsf150 11-06-2011 01:49 PM

well thanks, i really didnt think about it because up until the point that i drove the truck i had not worked on it, i was walking outside and the guy who did the work asked me to test drive it as he was going to lunch, i hopped in it, pulled out onto the street , wasnt looking behind me to notice the smoke until the pissed off guy rolled up yelling at me (I was looking at he guages actually), at which point i saw the cloud behind me, and realzed what happened, and i didnt hurt the guys truck, i would not have a problem if someone did the same thing if it was my truck it was no different than pulling from a stop with a load. Maybe i shouldnt have used the term (power brake) but what ever.

NadirPoint 11-06-2011 02:03 PM

Yeah, now that we know the place where they let soon to leave employees test drive trucks they didn't even work on, people who don't know how a tranny is supposed to shift. You know the ones who think blowing smoke on Camrys is funny. You know - that type? Sure won't be going there any time soon.

I wonder if Peterbuilt Iikes mechanics who do that type shyt? Shouldn't be hard to find their place of business now that we have a nearby ph#. Maybe send the manager a link - ya think???

cumminsf150 11-06-2011 02:14 PM

go for it. You should try to get someone you have never met from another state fired over an internet post on a forum about something that happened that you didnt witness, so they cant pay their mortgage or feed their family. That would be really "professional"

NadirPoint 11-06-2011 02:29 PM

Consider your attitude "adjusted." :tu:

cumminsf150 11-06-2011 02:42 PM

i think ive maintained a pretty good attitude considering you basically called me an idiot, and threatened to go after my paycheck over a stupid incident in traffic, but hey ill take that. So does that tranny need a programmer or will it re-learn, cause as far as i know it runs on magic dust :P

NadirPoint 11-06-2011 02:51 PM

Ah, the Joy of the Internet....

Sorry you took it that way.

Must be making fun of retarded people on the internet is more mature than smoking out people in traffic :s:

godblessmud 11-12-2011 02:40 AM

All arguing aside, that type of behavior is why no one else works on my truck besides me and 2 trusted buddies. I dont even let the kids at les schwab drive my truck into the bay when I get new tires after watching some guy about take out the wall dropping the clutch in granny low a few years ago.
"We are supposed to take it for a test drive to make..." "NOPE! step away from my truck"

didnt realize this thread was still going on, dude all i did was hold the brake and tap the throttle for a second, jesus, i didnt pull a ferris bueller on the the damn thing, the whole point of the story was it smogged a dude out by driving it normal! Seriously im a professional mechanic, i dont abuse peoples vehicles, talk all the sh!t you want but I take my job seriously , i thought it was funny because a dude yelled at me and it wasnt my truck and i didnt tune it that way. Well i see it as an honest mistake, and really funny. The truck is fine right, and the guy that got smoked out is still breathing. I don’t see what all the fuss is about really. It’s not a big deal, and so what if you blew a little smoke in some guys window. I bet your truck does not smoke like some POS bound to doom all us diesel lovers. Bottom line is it was an honest mistake. People just don’t know when to laugh. :tttt::moon:

How many times have you had somebody put their tailpipe in your window and smoke you out and you laughed about it?

Honest mistake or not, it isn't funny... It's a straight up dick move whether it was intentional or not...

EasternAggie 11-18-2011 05:28 PM

I swear diesel smoke went from the coolest thing in the world to where now it seems like its a freakin taboo if you even blow any out. I COMPLETELY understand griping some teenager out when they come in here like "holy crap my truck pours coal, and I smoke out every car on the highway". People like that need to be castrated. But, IMO, this story does not deserve the same reaction.

The hosser, couldnt agree more :tu:

Ahhhhhhh...... Im through here. Im not trying taking either parties side in this argument, Im just trying to get both sides to see each others points, come to some sort of agreement, and stop bickering, and all the while Ive got someone who keeps throwing fuel on the fire, and on top of that, its a moderator.

I see the OP's point. He made an honest mistake... I just don't think it's very funny to blow smoke into somebodies window... I think it's absolutely disrespectful. Don't see anything wrong with that...

As far as your statement... You go from stating that any teenager who say's his truck pours coal is something he should be castrated for and then you state that this story does not deserve the same reaction... Uh... He said this in his first post "AT WHICH POINT I REALIZE I FILLED HIS ENTIRE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WITH THICK BLACK DIESEL SOOT, AND THEN PROCEEDED TO LAUGH MY ASS OFF ALL THE WAY TO THE NEXT EXIT A MILE DOWN THE HIGHWAY!"... Then you say you completely agree with Hossers statement in which he said "and the guy that got smoked out is still breathing. I don’t see what all the fuss is about really. It’s not a big deal, and so what if you blew a little smoke in some guys window. I bet your truck does not smoke like some POS bound to doom all us diesel lovers."

So lets recap really quick... You and hosser are cool with smoking out people as long as it's funny to you guys and they are still breathing... but teenagers should be castrated when they brag about their trucks smoking a lot...

My question is where do we draw the line for smoke? Hosser believes there is a "POS bound to doom all us diesel lovers" but how do we determine that if in the exact same post we say its ok to smoke out other drivers for absolutely no reason? Because they drive an import vehicle? Is that a good reason? We already have seen the effects of smoke and the stance that the government has taken on it... Check out every new truck and you will see the changes being made.

Just curious where the line is drawn... I am a member just like you and I have not attacked anybody in this thread... Merely discussing my thoughts on smoking people out, and I believe it's completely inappropriate... You guys can do whatever you want, it isn't going to change the way I wake up and put my pants on in the morning, but it's wrong to intentionally smoke somebody's car out for no reason but to get a good giggle.

So what is the issue here? You believe that the OP made an honest mistake; I dont think he believes randomly smokin someone out is funny, and I certainly dont either. I dont randomly smoke out people, and I dont think he does either. I believe in the OP's case, this was a one time occurrence, and accidental, so that is why I think all of you are completely overreacting.

Matt (cumminsF150), when you are in your personal truck, do you go around smoking people out?

NadirPoint 11-19-2011 05:24 PM

I was on the way to the mall with my wife' and daughters today when a little red ricer Honda zipped out in front of us and BLEW SMOKE! No shyt. And not because it was burning oil or anything, just one big puff of black smoke as he cut in front of us. The idiot obviously has rigged up something to dump into the exhaust with a switch or some such nonsense.

Apparently the stupidity is catching on with those so inclined, diesel or not.

At first the thought of that was humorous, but now its just saddening. Diesel is the new ricer :argh:

ozzking93 11-19-2011 07:26 PM

If someone were to do that in my truck i would have them fired and castrated.

My dad had taken his truck in for a recall work well the dealership he took it to in town had to send it to another dealership, well when dad dropped it off he wrote down the mileage and reset the trip odometer.

A few days later he recieved a phone call from one of his friends asking if i had been driving the truck cause there was some young kid running it around blowing smoke everywhere and on everything, well i didnt have my license then so dad knew it wasnt me. So my dad called the dealership and they said they only let the older service techs drive it and so my dad hung up and the next day he got a few more calls from his friends saying some young kid was running it all over hell reaming on it blowing smoke everywhere.

So finally my dad went to the dealership where the truck was at checked the mileage from when he wrote it down and it had 300-500 miles on it that it shouldnt have the dealer it was supposed to go to is only 40 miles from the dealership dad dropped it off at.

Then dad told them about all the people saying some kid was driving it and they kept denying it and dad even had one of his friends get behind the truck and write down the tag number and the description of the guy and they still denied it so dad called the district manager or whatever it was told them about what happend and that dodge dealership lost all dealer incentives and some other stuff i cant remember at the moment for a year.

And that kid was fired.

Thats why only a very select few people EVER touch my truck.

cumminsf150 11-21-2011 09:49 PM

NO, MY TRUCK DOSENT SMOKE AT ALL, AND THE EXHAUST DOSENT EXIT ON THE SIDE ANY WAY, AND TO OZZKING "If someone were to do that in my truck i would have them fired and castrated." TO APPLY THAT THEORY TO THIS CASE, YOU WOULD HAVE TO CASTRATE YOURSELF AND ANYONE WHO EVER DROVE THE TRUCK BECAUSE IT RUNS SO RICH THAT IT ALWAYS BLOWS SMOKE! I DONT THINK ANY TRUCK SHOULD RUN LIKE THAT, IT LOOKS RIDICULOUS AND MAKES PEOPLE HATE TRUCKS, I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY BECAUSE I IMAGINED WHAT A DOUCHEBAG THE OWNER MUST LOOK LIKE DRIVING AROUND DOING THAT ALL THE TIME. THE MOST RIDICULOUS PART OF THIS WHOLE THREAD IS THAT EVERYONE IS APPALLED THAT I HELD THE BRAKE AND BLIPPED THE THROTTLE IN A TRUCK THAT IS TURNNED UP WITH A GIANT TURBO AND F-ING METHANOL INJECTION THAT CAME IN WITH AN EXPLODED GEAR CARRIER AND SHATTERED AXLE SHAFT BECAUSE THE OWNER USES IT TO PULL BULLDOZERS UP 20 % GRADES, AS IF I BRUTALLY ABUSED THE DAMN THING!

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

EVERY BODY WITH AN AUTO TRANSMISSION, GO GET IN YOU TRUCK, PUT IT IN DRIVE, LIGHTLY HOLD YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND THEN BARELY TAP THE ACCELERATOR FOR ABOUT HALF A SECOND, DID THE CRANK SHAFT FALL OUT?:argh:
[color=grey][size=-2]
---AutoMerged DoublePost---
.

IM GONNA GO KILL A HORSE, PICK UP A PALLET OF BASE BALL BATS, AND ALL OF YALL ARE INVITED.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I AM PRETTY SURE THE OWNER OF SAID VEHICLE WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY AS HELL, YOU DONT TUNE YOUR TRUCK TO RUN LIKE THAT IF YOU ARE CONCERNED WITH WHAT FELLOW MOTORISTS THINK OF YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT, LET ALONE INSTALL A CHROME PAIR OF TESTICLES AND A "MIND IF I SMOKE?" BUMPER STICKER.
