1986 Ford Ranger Diesel
I am looking at buying a 1986 ford ranger diesel, don't know any thing about them and was wondering if anyone knew anything good or bad about them. I have not yet looked at it but the body is ruff and will probably be putting the engine into a 4x4 ranger. What years will that engine mount up to the tranny and transfer case? the truck is 2 wheel drive. Thanks
Oh and mods sorry if(I am pretty sure it is) in the wrong place |
they get decent mileage from what ive read, a friend of mine has one, it runs great.

I have been driving one for about 6 months the first month i had it it was slow but by turning up the fuel and plugging the waste gate i gained a lot of power and make about 27 lbs of boost! Oh and it make black smoke

I moved it here not a powerstoke but i guess this would be the best place for the thread :)

if they are the same bellhousing as a 2.3 four cylinder and a 2.9 V6, they will bolt to any of the transmissions......i think a 5 speed would be better than an automatic....

That is the little Mitsubishi TD that was used in the Little Dodge D50's/mitsubishi Mighty max. The engine designation is the 4D55. I know they were pretty solid in the little Mighty Max as my uncle had 2 that went well beyond 300,000.

It was either the Mitsubishi 4D55 or the Kumitoyo(sp?) for which I have no information.
The 4D55 is a good little engine. I have one in a '83 D50 4x4 that is rock solid reliable and gets great economy. Parts and maintenance items are readily available for the Mitsu---I have a buddy in Omaha with a Ranger/Kumitoyo(sp?) setup, will try to get some info from him. Dan- |

You sure? I had heard they were little Cat engines.
Yep they are little Mitsu Diesels. The N/A ones were Mazdas. |
RedNeck?
You End Up Finding One? I'd be Curious If They Remain In Existence. |
