'04 F350 Powerstroke Engine
 

Just got a call from a friend of mine, he just fried the engine on his PS. Some hose/nipple in the cooling system broke and he overheated it, frying just about everything in between. The bad part is, his temp guage never went up or he could of cought it early and avoided any longterm damage. He already has it somewhere that is saying it's a gonner, so I'm just going by that analisis and asking a few questions for him.

Anyways, he's asking me how/if there are any alternitives in replacement engine. Should he buy a create Ford motor? Is his engine anywhere possible to rebuild? Go with some sort junk yard motor? or Does anyone know an engine builder that knows those engines inside and out, that would be a good choise in a replacement?

While we are at it, roughly, how much will something like this cost?? or do I really want to know

Man thats a tought one. I I'm thinking it could be rebuilt possibly but not sure of the damage done. A new motor will cost around $12k from Ford and another 2k in labor cost to have it installed. I do know a couple guys that could look at it fer ya but I do't know where your at. One guy is in Cal, one in OR and one here in OK...oh another in NC. If it were me, i would be buying a crate cummins and converting my F-350 and saveing a bunch of money. Probably do that for around $5-6k.

and WAY more reliable than the 6.0..... not knockin... well ya i am.... but it has been proven..... buy a beatup or wrecked 94-98 12valver and swap it all out.... go ahead and build you a good tranny though.... figure that in to the price... anywhere from 2800-5200 depending what he wants to do with it.....

Don't worry about your tranny, you already have the best tranny on the block hands down. The touqueshift is bullet proof.
Unless of course it has loads of miles and abuse on it like the engine apperantly had.

i was refering to the 47rh, 47re, and 48re that come behind the Cummins in a Dodge.... they are total weaksauce from the factory.... i wasn't even thinking that you could get the adapter that bolts to the block for that tranny though.....

Well, the engine swap is a new take. Really didn't think about that.

Sorry, I didn't put that I'm in Houston,Texas he is in Waco, TX. I haven't finniahed my user cp stuff. I'm use to all the other diesel websites I'm on, they all know me, very well.

How 'bout a few follow up questions, on this swap. Is this diffecult? Is there a 'kit'?

This is a work truck, meaning, it gets many miles put on it a day and he doesn't have time for bs problems. So reliability is the #1 concern.
