Hey guys Im new to the 7.3's, always been a cummins guy!..Just picked up a 2000 f550 dump 4x4 has 189k on the dash and Iv'e ran it for a few days now and everything has been good up until it started blowing white/blue smoke out of the tail pipe but it will only do it once in a while. any ideas of what this could be injectors? turbo?. should I worry about it or...... anyone have this issue in the past?!any help would be much appreciated Thanks Everyone..

First things first, what does the smoke smell like? Any loss of power?

gyayo2012 06-14-2012 07:11 PM

Smells normal I guess you can say!... It happend when I had a heapin load of loam on thought I blew out the turbo, Fell flat on its face then came back life. I've been running it empty and the power feels fine, Just that white blue'sh color only once in a while....., seals?maybe

try some sea-foam or diesel injector cleaner it sometimes fixes it

IT might be worn out injectors.

Sounds like a turbo issue... Truck more or less stock?

gyayo2012 06-20-2012 08:11 AM

truck is bone stock!.bought it from the original owner he said he never turned a nut on the motor... i was thinking turbo also but if it was the turbo wouldnt it not work at all after it was blown?.. the truck seems to run fine now just some of that white blue smoke only once in a while.. alot worse when i have a heavy load on!..

sounds like possible air getting into fuel system.... when the pump pushes hard it might be starving a bit... my old 99 will do that some times... thats when I know it needs a filter... possibility .... cheep suggestion.....:humm:

check the pedestal behind and around the turbo and see if any oil is leaking. Bearings and shaft play. my buddies did it also only sometimes on colder days though blew alot of white smoke because the turbo bearing was going out and had some oil in the intake pipe right in front of the turbo because of oil. pull your intake pipe and check if theres oil in it.

i would try injector cleaner first and see what happens before you start taking stuff apart. if it still does it, it could be blow by.
