I need a cost effective way to get my truck louder. Any suggestions? And will it help gas mileage, even marginally? Thanks!:c:

Cut out the muffler and replace with a piece of pipe... that's about as cost effective as it gets... And no, you will not gain any MPG's by doing this...

Should I buy the mbrp piece or just any 4" exhaust tubing

if you have stock exhaust you'll need 2- 3 1/2" to 4" reducers

Some exhaust shops have larger pipe but you can find a pretty reliable stock of 3"+ exhaust pipe pieces at any truck/industrial supply store.
I'd caution against a straight pipe on a Powerstroke....they sound a lot better with some sort of muffling device.

By the time you get done monkeying around with exhaust, you would be $ ahead by purchasing a Summit Racing 5" system and running it w/out a muffler. It starts with a muffler delete, then you wonder what a bigger cat back will do, then you realize you don't live in a smog area and the POS dealership sold you a truck without a cat anyway, so you add a down pipe. With each bigger piece, the non existant mpg gain has taken a back seat to how cool your rig sounds and the extra power you have freed up! Aluminized is mandatory, stainless if you want it to out last your rig.
I spent more money "saving money" on my rig than if I would have dropped the cash the first time! :argh:

Just get a section of 3 1/2'' pipe to replace the muffler... Cheap and effective.
