Anyone Experience This???

I'm driving my '00, F-350 down the road when I hear my truck beeping. It has done this three times already. It gives a series of 5 beeps, 5 times then it'll stop. Then my keyless entry won't work for a couple of start ups, and it sounds like my heater/ac fan is still running. :WTF: Anyone have any ideas on whats going on??? Thanks in advance...

Longhorn 12-21-2007 12:11 PM

Pretty sure thats the ejection seat misfiring, or you are drastically low on Blinker Fluid...

You can get some here: http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main...&products_id=6

Wow -- thats a crazy thing... lemme do some looking and see what I can find but :U:

OOOOkay -- I think I found what you need...

It seems like the beeping is an airbag system problem and that likely the GEM going out.

sixpack1 12-22-2007 06:49 AM

Thanks Blue what is the "GEM"? I wonder how big a deal it is to repair/replace. Thanks again...

Blue01F250 12-22-2007 10:02 AM

From what I've read, its the General Electric Module -- it has something to do with just about everything that needs power to operate (pw, pl, pm, radio, airbags, etc.).

Some say the connection at the firewall sometimes can get water in the connector to cause the electrical gremlins, but it seems with the certain amount of beeping and such, that it is trying to tell you something - so likely is a problem with a system tha it has something to do with like the airbags.

any CEL's?

Nope, no CEL's. I don't think my truck is eligable for this recall, it's a 2000, F-350. Would be nice if it did qualify. Thanks for your research...

Blue01F250 12-24-2007 06:45 PM

No problem -- but it still maybe the GEM -- I did some reading that said it wouldn't always set a CEL -- but the most notable thing was the set number of beeps...

Y_Knot 01-01-2008 02:27 PM

I had some of the same problems in a 00' also, except I didn't have the beeps. It turned out to be that the windshield was leaking & dripping onto the PCM. Replaced windshield, cleaned contacts on all wire connections & problems went away. Hope yours is simple.

I just had this problem fixed. I had the windshield replaced and it wasn't sealed properly and water dripped on the Gem module . The beeping was the airbag system shutting down and alerting you. You probaly have had funny clicking noises under the dash with the truck off and no key in the ignition and the window and door lock lighted buttons blinking too huh? It is located on the back side of the fuse block under the dash. It is a simple fix and I did it in my driveway. Costs about $160 with a dealer discount. Also there is a recall on crank posistion sensor for 7.3 psd's 99-03.

Mad Max 01-20-2008 12:15 AM

I have the same problem with my windshield. I need to get it replaced before it rains again :)

My door ajar on dash light comes on intermittently while driving. I put a switch to the cab/cargo light fuse to manually shut lights off. I here a click while truck is running and lights go out. But idiot light stays on. Do u think it is my gem?

More then likely it is the door switch. Drivers side is the most common.

You can normally get it working again with a bunch of WD-40 sprayed into the lock mech and door latch. Hose it down good. Then open and close the door a bunch.

Worst case you have to pull it out and replace it.

Did you ever figure this out? I've been driving one of our fleet trucks this week, an '01 F350 base model, gas motor. Power nothing. Logged in here to see if I could find anything out about this same issue, after the dealer listened to it and said they don't know what it is and I shouldn't worry about it. Same exact pattern. Every time you start the truck, 20 seconds later it rattles off five sets of five beeps five seconds apart. Then if you drive it long enough, it'll do it every once in awhile while driving around, but always five sets of five beeps, five seconds apart. Exactly. No idiot lights, everything else working fine, no other noises, nothing suspicious going on. It's driving me crazy!

Idk what year they started but the seat belt minder will drive you crazy if your riding around with it unbuckled

JBearSVT 05-29-2013 03:55 PM

No, I use the seat belt, and it's actually a completely different tone than the seat belt chime. I'm thinking it's probably the leaking windshield that others have talked about so far.
