Tune up on a 99 f350 7.3. What should I do?

I have about 169300 miles on it now. I don't drive it very much. It sits in the driveway most of the time. I keep up on the oils and the fluids, what else do I need to think about when it comes to a tune up on a diesel? If you have any input on this or what you would do, your info would be great. I do want to do the work myself if I can.

Thanks.

joebob3093 02-14-2011 02:04 PM

not really anything you can "tune up". keep fresh fluids and filters in it and thats about it.

kawie400 02-14-2011 02:40 PM

Ok I knew that, but wasn't sure if there was anything I was missing. Thanks joebob3093

someone else might have something to add, but i cant think of anyhting.

change the engine oil and filter. change fuel filter. if it's needed you can flush the cooling system. if you get bored you can change the oil in your diffs. tranny flush. that's about it.

that guy is an idiot, you do not need to do that. the oil is the reservoir get changed out as fast the injectors can use it.

Lange503 02-17-2011 04:26 PM

yeah what he said lol

No tune up needed. If something is broke, fix it. Otherwise change the fluids when needed and drive it.

No valve ajustments on a psd, no sensors that need replaced. Just enjoy!

And dont do the "top end oil change"... If you want to change the top end oil, blip the throttle hard once or twice... Oil changed.

the guy has some interesting knowledge but all u guys say hes a clown? if u watch the video the oil he pulls out looks like hard core syrup....

Pour a bottle of CPR Engine flush in it. Designed for the HPOP and Injectors. Makes a world of difference. It's hard to get a hold of, Most shops are concerned with owners doing oil flushes. Just follow the instructions carefully and possibly do an additional oil change after if your concerned.
Usually our customers claim better driveability, better mileage, better cold starts and less fuel odor.

Wow thanks for the input on this. I have done the top end once before, but that's when I got the truck 4 years ago. I do get some vibrattion around speeds of 35 to 50 mph and then when I hit 55 it goes away. Infact it runs better at 70mph. Also I did the zoodad mod the other day and I love it. I really feel the diff on it. My truck gets up a little faster now WOT feels good. I will post pic's later.

waterboy88 02-21-2011 11:06 AM

they know best, that is the only reason the oil geta a little black at first, waste of time, thats y we like 7.3,s dont have to do anything but change that cam censer and beat it

kawie400 02-22-2011 09:23 AM

What is CPR engine flush???

mysterync 02-22-2011 09:27 AM

It's used in virtually every ford dealership, with the exception of a few which use other oil products that do the same thing. It's great for the high pressure oil system, We've used it for years without any problems what so ever.

He is a complete idiot. Without a doubt one of the dumbest people out there.

If he had any understanding of how the HPO system worked he would know that changing the HPO is done every time you start the truck. It is not a closed loop system.

He has no idea how the tranny works, no idea how to calculate power... He thinks by stacking a superchips, Nitrous and propane you can make your self a 600hp truck.

jakobengland 03-02-2011 05:03 PM

im not going to defend the guy but with superchips propane and enough nitrious you can make a 1000hp truck..........ONCE...........then BOOM.:bomb: done truck.
im not saying he has all the answers but he does have some good points.

prison 03-02-2011 06:01 PM

if you got the truck 4 years ago i'd flush the coolant if you havent since you owned it. just a quick bit on coolant. i believe the reccommended time is 5 years. when it goes bad the ph goes up (cant exactly remember if its up or down) and it causes rust in the passages it travels through. Rust is never good so change it. you obviously care about your truck even though its not your daily driver so drain the cooling system. run straight water through the radiator until it comes out clean. then fill it up 50/50

kawie400 03-09-2011 09:27 AM

Ok I'll try that. I haven't done that one yet. I was told that I really didn't need to do that until it started to look bad, but it sounds like I should. Is that something I can do in my driveway????? Are there any video about this out there?
