oil pressure

at idle the oil pressure gauge will drop, but once i tap the throttle it will go back to normal.... wtf? i'm hoping its just a stupid sending unit :argh:

Lange503 10-22-2010 10:35 AM

bump?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

just replaced the sending unit on top of the HPO res. and still nothin, what other sending units are there, anyone know? :argh:

Jeff Davis 10-22-2010 11:44 PM

I looked in the (haynes) manuel to see if i could find any other sensor and it just lists the oil temp which is located on the side but does not indicate that it has any association with the oil presure gauge, but it sends signals to the pcm for proper functioning of the fuel injector, did say to remove the pressure sensor and hook up a pressure gauge and fitting to the resivior and start the motor and read the pressure from that to isolate wether it is oil problem or gauge problems. let you know if I find anything else

Lange503 10-23-2010 12:01 AM

i didn't even think of hooking up a gauge to that, i'll see if i can't find one tomorrow morning, thanks :c:

the book also said that the resivior runs under the same amount of pressure that the engine runs, at idle is10 psi, and at 3300 rpm 40-70 psi, never took my truck that high of rpm maybe that why I think that mine is messed up possibly that I am not driving it right I never go over 2000 what do you think.

Lange503 10-25-2010 03:19 PM

you must get good fuel mileage, but only time mine ever gets close to that is when its a WOT, but saturday afternoon my engine temp gauge spiked so i shut the truck off and popped the hood and then i watched all my anti-freeze drain into the motor :argh: :ouch:

jshblain 10-25-2010 06:04 PM

how often do you do oil changes?

My 2000 7.3 tack shows that it 3300 is at red line I noticed that on saturday also approx. 45 minutes before I pulled off the freeway and what I think is the IDM killed my truck and left it stranded. I coach 6,7,8 yr old football and I was on my way to the playoffs with two of the players in the back. lost the game truck died shitty day. and yes I get great gas mileage 60miles and not a drop of fuel used ,but the suburban that towed me got 5 mpg that day.:argh::argh::argh::argh::argh:

Lange503 10-26-2010 11:00 AM

every 3k sounds like both of us had a shitty day ha, also check the CPS too that can just kill your truck out of no where when it goes it

CSIPSD 10-26-2010 06:57 PM

Oil pressure sender on our trucks is more of an on-off switch... It does not really read pressure. If you replaced the sender, I would check some of the wires for broken wires or chaiffed wires. If not, put a manual gauge in there and check again.

cps is two weeks old I will put the old one in and make sure the new one didn't go bad read on a thread that the gray ones are not as good as the black ones. (the old one)

Lange503 10-27-2010 09:56 AM

hmmm didn't know they were color coded lol replaced mine years ago and haven't had to touch it since

i would try that if i hadn't of blew a head gasket (well thats what i'm thinkin it is) i'm gonna save my pennys and just rebuild the motor, put forged rods, some 238/100 hybrids and a precision billet turbo and call it good

I REALLY doubt you blew a head gasket... Whats the symptoms?

Lange503 10-27-2010 12:23 PM

started to over heat so i pulled off and shut it off, popped the hood, and watched my truck guzzle almost the ENTIRE res. of anti-freeze

CSIPSD 10-27-2010 09:57 PM

I would suspect a cracked injector cup over a blown head gasket...

Lange503 10-29-2010 01:51 PM

ok, i'll let you know when i know, either way i'm going to pull the motor and do a rebuild on it, mostly for the forged rods but i'm sure it could use some refreshing

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

how would i go about getting the injector cup out? isn't there some B.S. specialty tool for it?

CSIPSD 11-01-2010 10:03 PM

There is a Rotunda tool that you need. There are several other kits on the market that do the same thing, goggle it, you should find a few. The Rotunda is the one I have used.

Lange503 11-02-2010 09:50 AM

i've found the cups themselves but no tool yet, but i'll keep lookin, thanks :c:

CSIPSD 11-02-2010 09:11 PM

Riffraff Diesel: Motorcraft Injector Cup

There ya go...

Lange503 11-03-2010 12:31 PM

thanks :c:

think the stage one 160cc injectors from Full Force will be about right for a PMR motor?
i'm gonna wait to rebuild the motor till after the snow is gone

CSIPSD 11-03-2010 09:46 PM

... I would go with Hybrids... Do it once and just detune it a bit...

238/100 hybrids or 250/100...

Lange503 11-04-2010 01:50 PM

and those 238s aren't going to be smokey as hell are they? a little smoke here and there to get a tail-gater off is nice but i don't want to have them smoke just for the hell of it

CSIPSD 11-04-2010 02:38 PM

Smoke is in the tuning and turbo combo... I ran 238/80% with a stock turbo and could keep it smoke free...

You have the HP bug, dont go with stage 2's just to go bigger later.

Lange503 11-04-2010 02:40 PM

how long did your turbo last with that set up? and how did you drive it?

and yes very true point, who has the best price for product on hybrids in your opinion?

CSIPSD 11-04-2010 02:43 PM

I ran the stock turbo from time to time when experementing with other turbos and housing set ups. It was never on there for very long...

Post up on the sponser section and you should get a few quotes.

Lange503 11-04-2010 02:50 PM

ok, i plan on getting the Precion Billet drop in from Black Widow, heard much about it? seems to be a good turbo, my buddy has a turbo from them that i think is a 72mm? and he has 350cc injectors with twin terminators, should be up and goin this weekend

CSIPSD 11-04-2010 05:49 PM

Its just another drop in... From what I have heard its everything we had hoped for out of the TN BB when I was testing compressor wheels... but now someone has made it.

Lange503 11-05-2010 10:30 AM

so its decent for just a drop in i assume? is it worth the extra coin to go with a full on system?

CSIPSD 11-05-2010 12:34 PM

Your so close to WOP, You should just go down there and get one of there quickspool set up's. Its a modded S300 that they have done by Puis Bell (one of the best turbo builders in the country)...

Lange503 11-08-2010 11:38 AM

i'll have to go down there when i get some more $$$ cause after buying the injectors and the injector cup it'll lighten the wallet a bit
