Compound turbo's

What are the pro's and con's for adding compound turbo over single besides the $ 9,000 + pricetag?:humm:

Well honestly I'd say it all just depends on what you what out of you truck. People are hitting 600+ with a single.

depends on how well they are matched and set up.. set up well there great for towing and egts tend to be down.. might try looking into empire diesels supercharger turbo set up, its a pretty sick setup ive seen one and ridden in one and it sure is wicked.

First off, thanks for calling them COUMPOUNDS, instead of "twins" as most call them. There is only one downside IMO. Lots of boost pressure ALL THE TIME. Hard on head gaskets. My buddy HAD 8psi cruising down the road, now it's at least 15psi at the same speed. Cooler, better economy, and quieter, but always more boost.

I like turbos i think the s on the end makes them way more fun

oh and about the compounds thing, I completely agree with you here, but of course twins apply to some diesels too, like my friend, he's building a compound/twin turbo duramax, so i think that's like 4 turbos, actually i know it is, and it's awesome

Probably 3, I think. Two big bastard feeding another. There is an awesome write up in Diesel World magazine on turbos, worth look.

I'm confused. I was saying a friend of mine is building a 4 turbo duramax, it's almost done, that way twins and compounds apply to his diesel truly rather than just someone saying twins or compounds so when talking about his truck you can't be wrong, and to the OP sorry for kinda hijacking the thread, there is really no downside to having compounds, except remember when you do these you're going to have to more than just pay the 9k for the turbo setup, injectors, head studs obviously, pistons, camshaft, fuel system, HPOP(s), transmission, all things to consider cause they will most likely all need to be addressed, not to mention little things like the ring and pinions and transfer case are all parts that will take a beating from all that new found power, trust me I only say this cause I have half the amount of turbos you're talking about and have pretty much gone through everything

I have all of that now, I have stage 3 injectors, fire rings, studs, teflon coated pistons, a build ats tranni, and so on. Once I have all the componants I will start the build......... a few more months I believe. Thanks for everyones comments, I will weigh the options a little more before making my choice. :s:
