7.3 powerstroke head gasket

driving the truck down the road and noticed the temp jumped from 190 to 290 like in a split sec. now i have white smoke out of the exhaust and smells
like coolant. i think its a head gasket but what are your guys opinion. show i do a compression test or what first please help thanks

stockish truck I would suspect an injector cup not headgasket...

Do a compression check and go from there. Head gaskets almost never fail in a 7.3.

what kinda compression should there be like how high

CSIPSD 04-04-2010 10:37 PM

Depends on the motor... Mine right now is between 320 and 360 for all... And that is considered low. 360+ is what I would expect on a healthy motor.

Do you have any kinda chip or anything on it.

This is exactly what happened to my truck a year ago. Ended up with all 8 injectors cracked and both heads cracked everywhere. Just happened out of no where with no warning.

I hope your your sake its just an injector cup.
