cold start problems
First of all I would like to say hello, this is my first time to the site and have read some of the posts. I know that there are other posts on this subject but would like to ask the question specific for my truck. Last year my truck had a problem starting in cold weather and assumed that it was the glow plugs so I took it to a reputable diesel shop (I think) to have them tested they told me that they were good along with the relay but said that the fuel injectors were the fault of the starting problem. My question is, is this possible? So I told him that for that price to test and fix them I would rather trade it in and get a new truck. So the weather warmed up and the problem went away. Well now it is getting cold again and needless to say I still have the truck and the problem so I called the dealer to inquire about the fuel injectors being the problem. The mechanic at the dealer said that it is not likely that the injectors would cause the problem because the truck does not run bad once it starts. So here I am for a third opinion. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same prolems and my vote is glow plugs, I dont see how an injector can mess it up unless it is constantly dumping fuel in the cylinder and if it was youd know it

Welcome to the Diesel Bombers! Now what year, make & model truck we talking about? That would help a lot. |
OR it would be the fuel bowl heater, I have to look at mine thisweekend

i had the same problem with my truck. i have a 93 IDI and i know there are major differences between them, but try having your batteries tested. i had one bad battery and as soon as the temp went below 40 it would crank for a while and start hard. once i got a new battery it fired right up every time. if one of your batteries is bad, i would recommend replacing them both.

scythe10318, thanks for the reply but I just cannot see that being the problem. the truck has no problem cranking even in the coldest temps. thanks again though.
