7.3 does not ideal right

my 02 ford f 350 ideals at 700rpm rather 500rpm like it did when we bought it. In the winter after i unplug it i start it and let it ideal. My truck used to some times ideal up 1100rpm and then i would tap the brake and it would go down to 500rpm . the truck is an 02 ford f 350 xlt lariet truck. the budy we bought from taught me to do that. If you think of any answers why it does it please respond. This is my brothers user name not mine

THE truck also has a stock motor

TRuck also has stock motor and every thing factory

mine does that too i have no idea why it does it, it might have something to do with the computer trying to warm up the motor quickly. i maybe wrong im having the same problem

Exhaust Back Pressure Valve.

It warms up the truck and it terribly annoying when you try to drive and it makes the woosh sound from opening and closing. It's wise to clean the tube that hooks on p/s exhaust header and goes into the sensor.

what allows the brake bedal to lower the rpm. I want to get the truck fixed before it gets really cold

bowietrucking 11-03-2012 07:36 PM

the computer lets it idle up fast when its cold. thats normal. idle issue. 500 sounds really low to me. 700 is probably close to normal but i dont really look at my rpms when its idling! higher than normal idle could be a vaccum leak. check all the vaccuum lines.

Diesels don't create vacuum, don't waste your time looking for something that's not there.

500 is normal mine idles right there all the time.

The exhaust back pressure sensor gives the information to the PCM to close the valve.

If you want it off disconnect the 2wire plug on the intake side of turbo.

I have pictures of deleting it but its a major project.

I just want it idel the way it did when we bought it. The truck is all stock and i do not want tod0 anything to it.

the only place a powerstroke can have a vacuum leak is at the throttle body LOL :tu:

It is an automatic high-idle that turns on after a couple minutes of idling, it is to reduce emissions. I have an 02 f-250 and it does the same thing

Zurconium 01-25-2013 09:19 PM

mxkid16 is correct and further to that, the reason it idles up is because the exaust gases are to cold. Less than 300 deg if i recall correctly. It will idle back down if it gets warm enough again.

Zurconium.
