Normal egt's
What are your normal egt's running around town???? I hear everyone to watch them and to worry so just curious what's high and what's low

Depends on your mods and such, but normal PRE TURBO egt's will be 500-700* at 55mph.
Higher alt will cause higher EGT's... Red line is 1250*. You can go over that for short periods of time, passing, racing and such, but 1250* is where you are on your own. IH rates the motor for 1250* sustained egt's. You can tow all day at 1250*, but when your over that, your on your own. |
Ya, I think somethings wrong with mine I have autometer gauges. It only goes to the 2 mark and sometimes a little bit over it...

wheres the probe? my 95 truck someone had a gauge already installed when i got it and it reads super low b/c its drilled in the exhaust pipe back by the trans!!! it should be in the exhaust manifold rite off the engine on the drivers side. do a search on here, someone has some nice pictures of exact location.

I will look I actually have no idea

It has a splice in it, is that normal?
How do I know if its the probe or gauge that's bad? And do I have to get an autometer or does it not matter sent from my F-350 |
They do have a splice in them... However that is not a location I would install a pyro probe. While it is pre-turbo, its 12-15" away from the best location.
Something is wrong with your gauge if its only showing 200*. |
Hmmmmm I wonder if I can find someone I can flop with for a test drive

Flop? as in?
Your gauge or probe is shot. Check the wires from there to the gauge and make sure there are no other cuts or splices in them. You can NOT change the length of an Autometer pyro wire. If you do it will not read correctly. You can adjust the length of an Isspro pyro wire, EV-2 or Performax. |

There is always a single splice, as shown in your picture. There should not be any more.

I will clean it and see if not $60 to get a new one

Well i took pictures on Saturday night and moved the wires around a little bit. I went for a little drive today just to go pick up my son from school 2 blacks away and its working now it moved up and down with acceleration and deceleration so IDK whats up its never really moved since I bought the truck but me fiddling with it did something I guess. i was at a stop for a minute or two and snapped a pic and my probe is in my down pipe???? i guess right by my turbo I've heard that you just add 100* mentally over what the gauge says what do you guys say

If you purchased an new probe, before you install it, you might want to consider re-locating it to the manifold as mentioned earlier. http://www.dieselmanor.com/diy/PSD3-...TC-6ltr1lg.jpg
If you do, you'll need to plug the existing hole in your up-pipe. A steel pipe plug will work nicely. http://www.dieselmanor.com/dm_produc...HP125-tn75.gif Here's some info on doing the drill/tap method for the thermocouple if you need it: Gauge Installations at DieselManor- 2003-2007 6.0L Powerstroke |
As of now I'm not going to get a new one it seems to be working but freeway speeds around 75 mph I read between 700-800 so if I add 100 to that because of my location I'm running 800*-900*
sent from my F-350 |
You dont need to add anything... Your location is still preturbo... It might be 25-30* lower then the manifold, but not 100*
|
Sweet good to know I will keep it how it is

It should still read higher than 200F. To me it sounds like something is wrong. It could be the thermocouple (probe) but it could also be in the electronics inside the gauge. Before you spend any money, give the Auto Meter techs a call, describe your problem and see what they think. They may say something like it's the gauge, and if that's the case you don't want to spend your money on a new thermocouple if that isn't the culprit.
