I have an OBS motor in my truck right now...

Its an easy swap, dont know why anyone would tell you otherwise.


Change the intake manifolds, the HPOP, Injectors, UVC harness and gaskets, top of motor wire harness, drivers side exhaust manifold and all the turbo piping mount and such.

Not one thing on that list is hard.

ok cool . your right NONE of that sounds hard and I would totaly do it to save $1100. now on the turbo ,is it because of location . is the HPOP inside the motor like the oil pump of a gas motor. and what is the uvc harness. sorry for all the silly questions. i could have tried to look this all up with google but there are so many versions of these motors and i wanted to know from personal experience. thanx again

HPOP is in the valley, uvc = under valve cover

found the hpop and removed most of the engines wiring aswell as the whole frontend of the truck. now my next question is do i pull the motor and tranny/tcase or can i seperate in the truck?

seperate it in the truck. you will have about 1500 pounds of akwardness if you don't.

can i get away with removing the bellhousing bolts and pulling the torqueconverter off the motor after i get it out of the truck or is that a bad idea ?

so if i use a motor from a older say 94 truck with a powerstroke i can use the block and heads , im still trying to figure it all out . i read about the different intakes being 8 and 10 bolts so i wonder if my 02 10 bolt intake runners will fit the heads of a 94 with 8 bolt runners . looks to me they just added 2 more holes . any help would be great. thanx

keep in mind there was 3 engines in 94. 6.9 IDI, 7.3 IDI & 7.3 DI. make sure you get the right block.

yeah i considered that and made sure this is a 7.3 powerstroke turbo motor.

I realize this thread is a couple months stale but I still want to chime in and see if i can raise it from the dead.

First, i am beginning the same swap. 94 long block going into an early 99. Similar if not the same.

Second, in response to an earlier jab at the op for going with an "older engine"... 02 internals include powdered metal rods which are known to break at the wrist pin. Supposedly this only happens over 500hp but unfortunately, it happens on a pretty regular basis at under that hp rating. 94-00 and some 01 internals include forged rods which are far superior and can go well over 500hp without failing. So besides the fact entire obs trucks can be had for less than a 99 up long block, the internal difference makes these engines the obvious choice for owners of 01-03 trucks.

Nor 100% sure on the cam specs but other than that... strip an obs block and heads down to a long block and oil pan, plug off the manual pump hole in the valley, pull the injectors and there is no difference at all.:c:
