95 F350 front axle u-joints

How big of a pain is it tot change the front axle u-joints on a 95 F350. Is it more than I want to take on, or is it something I can accomplish without great difficulty I'm usually up for a challenge but.........

I think they're pretty easy. But then, I'm kind of a big deal. :D

Seriously though, they're not bad. Just get yourself (or rent) a quality ball joint press to press out the u-joints.

OK I think I have to change the front differential seal as well, could be a long day! :humm:

pull the wheel off, then the 4wd hub. there are 2 spanner nuts in there. in between them is a washer with a key and a bunch of holes in it. the second spanner nut has a smal pin, do not break that off. then pull the whole hub off. 5 bolts hold the spindle on. the back side of the spindle is a press- on fit to the knuckle. lay a block of wood on the spindle and hit it side to side and work it off. when you get that off the axle slides out. since you have to do the inner seals as well, pull the drive shaft and the yoke. then pull the diff cover off and then pull the carrier. the inner seals are a light press- on fit in the housing and on to the axle shaft. then reverse all the steps. when you put the axles back in, make sure they are lubed up good so you don't knock the seals out out.

Thanks for the detailed info that helps a lot. I feel much more confident when I have good info on how to.

Thanks again! :tu:

it's really not that bad. but i've had the front end apart on these a time or two. LOL if you have any other quetions on it fell free to PM me. the inner seals are relatively expensive, but the seal spins with in its self.
